In this role you will design, build, and maintain API management software for AI/LLM-driven workloads. You’ll shape features like multi-LLM routing, semantic routing, and caching within the Kong AI Gateway ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver scalable, reliable systems and mentor junior engineers. This position offers impact by expanding Kong’s AI gateway capabilities and integration with third-party platforms, in a hybrid setup in Milan, Italy.
Retribuzione / Benefits

Design, build, and maintain API management software for AI/LLMs and underlying stack
Architect and implement features such as proxying, load balancing, and databases support for Kong AI Gateway
Troubleshoot bugs, tune performance, and optimize low-level components




Bridge gaps between Kong and third-party deployment platforms and tooling
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge
Handle additional tasks assigned by manager
Responsabilità

5+ years of server-side application development experience
Experience designing and building highly scalable, distributed, reliable, and resilient systems
Solid xlwpduy low-level Linux troubleshooting and profiling skills
Experience with distributed systems, Linux networking, and APIs on L7/L4 transports
Comfortable working with a remotely distributed team
Strong ownership mindset and excellent verbal/written communication
Familiarity with AI/LLM concepts and applications development
Hands‑on experience with Rust
