Commitment & contract: 2 years contract duration

Location: Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, via Morego 30 Genova, Italy

Step into a world of endless possibilities, together let’s leave something for the future!

At IIT, we are committed to advancing human-centered Science and Technology to address the most urgent societal challenges of our era. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and material sciences, offering a truly interdisciplinary scientific experience. Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds.

We are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.

THE ROLE
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The Electron Spectroscopy and Nanoscopy Research unit is coordinated by Giorgio Divitini, who has extensive experience in Electron Microscopy technique development and applications.

The research focuses on furthering and applying the state of the art in electron microscopy for materials, taking advantage of a recently installed ThermoFisher Spectra 300 S/TEM equipped with an “ultimono” monochromator, capable of an energy resolution better than 30 meV, image and probe correctors, and a Continuum+K3 GIF. The group will also further data analysis using and developing software routines for analysis of large datasets. Research projects span beam-sensitive materials with optoelectronic applications, such as hybrid perovskites, MOFs, and materials for energy in general, as well as systems at the interface between life sciences and materials science. The research line has close collaborations with both EU and non-EU world-leading groups.

Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be:

Use of Electron Microscopes (including an aberration corrected TF Spectra 300 S/TEM) to develop new approaches for 1) advanced acquisition routines for STEM, 2) imaging of beam sensitive materials, including 2D materials, 3) analysis of materials for optoelectronics, such as semiconductor nanocrystals, hybrid perovskites and 2D materials.

Development of new data-driven approaches for studies of optoelectronic properties using EM, including machine learning / machine vision algorithms.

The balance between data acquisition and advanced data processing can be varied depending on specific research needs.

Data analysis and preparation of scientific outputs
