ARCHITECTURAL SPECIALIST (HSE FIRE PROTECTION)
The Architectural Specialist will play a crucial role in providing integrated solutions for complex industrial plants built around the latest technologies in large-scale projects worldwide.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
Responsible for coordination of architectural and civil engineering activities in Industrial Plant projects, ensuring proper execution, budget compliance, and schedule adherence. Functionally reports to the Building Design Leader for project integration, and hierarchically to the Group Leader and Head of Department for deliverables quality, project assignments, priority schedules, and methodology.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow up building design for Proposal, FEED or EPC Projects per Building Design Leader’s guidance, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering centers to meet budgets and timelines.
- Manage conceptual, basic and detail design, integrating inputs from multiple disciplines.
- Finalize design basis, finishing specifications and typical details, including fire safety requirements.
- Perform design quality checks, 3‑D model reviews and fire safety compliance (escape routes, compartmentation).
- Support Project Execution Plan with HSE and Fire Protection aspects.
- Conduct technical feasibility analyses, including fire‑driven design considerations.
- Evaluate technical bids and material requisitions for Fire Protection systems and materials.
- Act as interface between Architecture, HSE, and Fire Protection disciplines.
FIRE PROTECTION & HSE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define fire protection design criteria for buildings.
- Ensure integration of passive (compartmentation, fire rating) and active systems (sprinkler, hydrants, gas).
- Verify escape routes, travel distances and evacuation strategies.
- Support fire detection, smoke management and firefighting interfaces.
- Collaborate with HSE team on fire risk assessment and emergency strategies.
CODES & STANDARDS
- Strong knowledge of the Italian Fire Code (DM 03/08/2015).
- Proven experience applying international standards (NFPA, EN, FM Global).
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Degree in Buildings Engineering, Architecture, or Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Building Engineering and Architectural Design.
- Preferred experience in multinational General Contractor Business.
- Preferable experience in Industrial Building Design, Civil Infrastructure Design, Hospital Design.
- Experience in Architectural Detail Design.
- Fluent in English and Italian.
- Preferable experience in BIM project management.
- Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, Navisworks, Photoshop.
- Dynamic mindset, flexible approach, analytical, technical and innovative skills.
- Excellent planning, collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
- Flexibility to travel for short missions to international engineering lead centers and construction sites.
ADDED VALUE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in fire protection design for industrial and civil buildings.
- Knowledge of NFPA, FM Global and Italian Fire Code regulations.
- Experience coordinating with HSE and Fire Protection disciplines.
- Familiarity with active and passive fire protection systems.
- Previous experience in EPC projects (Oil & Gas, Power, Chemical).
- Registration in Italian Ministry of Interior fire engineering list (ex L.818).
JOB LOCATION
Catania, Italy.
CONTRACT TYPE AND CLASSIFICATION
- Contract type: Permanent.
- Applicable collective agreement (NCLC): Chemical and Chemical‑Pharmaceutical (code B011).
- Job classification level: Middle Manager, consistent with job requirements and applicable collective agreement.
COMPENSATION
The initial gross annual salary is €50,000, paid over 14 monthly installments, and includes applicable elements of the Collective Agreement and benefits provided under company agreements, including flexible benefits and participation premio. Variable components and additional benefits will be discussed during the selection process.
