Within the Space Division , we are looking for an Electro-Optical Sensor System Engineer (Performance) for our office in Campi Bisenzio (FI) .
Within the EO Sensor System Engineering area, the person will ensure optimal development of the payload system regarding instrument performance, calibration, and data processing algorithms, both on-board and on the ground, overseeing the allocation of performance requirements and their verification,
and maintaining key performance models and interfaces with stakeholders.
The person will be involved in the development of electro-optical instrumentation (spectrometers, radiometers, navigation cameras, or attitude sensors) for remote sensing applications, both in Earth observation and scientific exploration, for the main missions developed by national and international agencies, in a commercial or dual context.
The person will be responsible for developing instrument performance models and simulators, calibration algorithms, and the on-board and ground processing chain: Contribute to the entire payload development cycle, from planning and design to final delivery, regarding payload performance, calibration, and data processing aspects, including L1 and L2 products, Instrument Simulator (ISIM), and Ground Processing Prototype (GPP).
Ensure correct allocation of performance, calibration, and processing requirements, performing the related verifications in accordance with the performance verification plan.
Define and maintain the performance model, ISIM and GPP specifications, the calibration plan, and the performance verification plan.
Prepare and maintain end-to-end performance and calibration budgets at the system level.
Act as a technical interface for performance, calibration, and processing issues with customers and suppliers, participating in dedicated meetings and reviews.
Support end-to-end verification and acceptance activities for ISIM and GPP of the payload.
Support the project team in all activities related to performance, calibration, and processing, ensuring effective project execution, including involvement in project reviews.
Education: Master's Degree in technical-scientific subjects (Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, Optics, Aerospace, or related fields).
Having a PhD in related fields is a plus.
Required experience level: Expert: at least 3 years of experience in the role Technical skills and knowledge: Ability to model physical phenomena related to electro-optical instrumentation (flight or laboratory) Ability to create SW simulators in Matlab (or Python) environment Ability to analyze and process data and images Familiarity with requirements management and their breakdown into subsystems Basic knowledge of optics Experience in AI and application of machine learning Represent a plus: Basic knowledge of electronics Knowledge of Remote Sensing principles Knowledge of the operating principle of optoelectronic sensors (CCD, CMOS, photodiodes, MCT...) Laboratory experience in the integration, testing, and calibration of EO instrumentation Behavioral skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills Accuracy and attention to detail Effective communication in multidisciplinary teams Teamwork Innovative thinking Language skills: English (min.
