CIM (Competence Industry Manufacturing) – CIM – is one of the eight nationally recognized competence centers with high specialization, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), now the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. CIM’s Advanced Robotics unit will drive the adoption of advanced robotics by empowering organizations to accelerate digital transformation , enhance competitiveness , and achieve seamless human-machine collaboration . The program aims to make robots more accessible, adaptable, and impactful in real-world applications. The main market segments are manufacturing, agriculture, food and logistics.
The Advanced Robotics unit addresses the next generation of robotic systems that combine sophisticated hardware with intelligent software to perform complex tasks autonomously , safely , and adaptively in dynamic and unstructured environments . These robots are capable of perception, learning, decision-making, and physical interaction, often in collaboration with humans and / or other robots.
Position Summary
The Advanced Robotics Specialist will focus on developing technologies for one of the following robot categories 1) Mobile Manipulators , 2) Humanoids and/or 3) Aerial Vehicles . The specialist’s domain will be defined based on technical background, experience, preferences, and project priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop modular robotics software using ROS2 and modern software architecture.
- Develop AI-based perception systems for robotics, including computer vision, object detection, tracking, segmentation,
depth perception, and scene understanding.
- Work on robot learning approaches such as imitation learning, reinforcement learning, behavior cloning, and learning from demonstrations.
- Explore the use of foundation models, vision-language models, multimodal models, and vision-language-action models for robotics applications.
- Develop data collection and training pipelines using real robot data, teleoperation data, simulation data, and synthetic data.
- Use simulation environments such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo, or similar tools to test and validate robotic behaviors.
- Integrate AI modules with classical robotics components such as SLAM, localization, navigation, motion planning, and task planning.
- Deploy and optimize robotic AI applications on edge computing platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson.
- Contribute to applied research projects, technical reports, demonstrators, and scientific publications.
- Collaborate with CIM’s multi-disciplinary teams (Additive Manufacturing, Digital Factory, Innovation, Training).
- Support training activities and internal knowledge transfer as robotics competencies grow across CIM.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
- Experience with ROS2 or other robotics middleware.
- Practical knowledge of AI-based robotic perception and computer vision, including object detection, segmentation, tracking, depth estimation, pose estimation, 3D perception, sensor fusion, and scene understanding.
- Familiarity with robot learning approaches, such as imitation learning, reinforcement learning and behaviour cloning,
and with robot learning tools such as LeRobot, NVIDIA Isaac Lab, Stable-Baselines3, etc.
- Familiarity with deep learning and computer vision frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, Open3D, etc.
- Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot issues systematically.
- Willingness to always learn.
- Proficiency in Italian and English is required; knowledge of other languages is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with foundation models, vision-language models, multimodal AI, embodied AI, or vision-language-action models.
- Experience with Robot-as-a-Service architectures.
- Experience with simulation tools such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo, or similar.
- Experience with mobile manipulators, humanoids, drones, AMRs, or industrial robotic platforms.

EXPERIENCE: 0 – 4 years.
LOCATION: Turin, Italy.
RAL : Indicative RAL salary ranging from €28,000 to €34,000, depending on experience and the pay scale under the CCNL for the Metalworking Sector.
