Tax Manager – VAT - Italy

€70,000–€85,000 + Benefits | Italy | Hybrid – 3 days per week in office

? The Role

Our client is a global leader in VAT compliance, VAT reclaim and tax technology, supporting businesses across Europe, the Americas and APAC. With a team of more than 1,000 professionals worldwide, they combine deep technical tax expertise with innovative technology to help clients navigate increasingly complex indirect tax requirements.

They are looking for an experienced VAT Manager to become the in-house technical lead for Italy.

This is not a high-volume VAT return preparation role. Instead, you'll provide technical leadership on complex Italian VAT matters, support international teams, improve compliance processes, liaise with tax authorities and play a key role in shaping the future of the firm's VAT offering.

You'll also have the opportunity to broaden your expertise through involvement in tax advisory, e-invoicing, tax technology and wider international tax projects.

? Responsibilities

- Act as the in-house technical specialist for Italian VAT matters
- Support compliance teams with complex or non-standard VAT issues
- Lead tax authority audits and enquiries, acting as the primary point of contact with the Agenzia delle Entrate
- Oversee VAT refund claims and related correspondence
- Review and quality assure complex VAT filings
- Develop, document and improve internal VAT compliance processes and quality standards
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes,



ensuring the wider business remains informed and compliant
- Provide technical guidance and training to colleagues across international teams
- Act as the escalation point for jurisdiction-specific client queries
- Support tax advisory work, e-invoicing initiatives and wider international tax projects
- Drive continuous improvement across processes, controls and service delivery

? Requirements

- 8+ years' experience in taxation, with strong expertise in Italian VAT
- Extensive experience in VAT compliance and VAT refund processes
- Proven experience managing tax authority audits and enquiries
- Relevant degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Law or a related discipline
- Relevant degree together with recognised tax advisor status or equivalent professional tax qualification in Italy.
- Fluent Italian and professional-level English
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Process-driven mindset with a passion for improving systems and quality
- Comfortable working independently within an international, matrixed organisation
