We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our multidisciplinary data and digital innovation team and help us evolve our data ecosystem, enabling informed decision-making across research, fundraising, operations and scientific communication activities. THE ROLE The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and developing modern data platforms, integrating multiple data sources and supporting the organisation’s growing adoption of advanced analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
This position combines technical engineering expertise with business understanding and stakeholder engagement. The role requires the ability to translate organisational requirements into scalable and maintainable data solutions, while helping shape the future data strategy of the organisation.
You will work closely with scientific teams, operational departments and executive stakeholders, contributing to initiatives that have direct impact on research outcomes and organisational effectiveness. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop and maintain scalable enterprise data platforms supporting operational and analytical workloads
Build and optimise ETL / ELT processes integrating internal and external data sources
Develop robust semantic data models that enable self-service analytics and reporting
Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and transform them into reliable data products
Support the evolution of the organisation’s reporting and business intelligence capabilities
Define and implement data governance, quality assurance and monitoring processes
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to enhance data processes and organisational efficiency
Contribute to data strategy, platform roadmap and architectural decisions
Promote engineering best practices, documentation standards and knowledge sharing
Participate in the delivery of innovative projects supporting Fondazione Telethon’s mission KEY REQUIREMENTS: Essential
Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems or related disciplines
4+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, Analytics Engineering or related roles
Strong knowledge of SQL and modern data warehouse concepts
Experience designing and implementing enterprise data platforms
Experience with cloud-based data ecosystems such as Snowflake, Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
Experience building and maintaining ETL / ELT pipelines
Experience with Power BI, Tableau or similar analytics platforms
Knowledge of data governance, data quality and metadata management practices
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Fluent Italian and professional English Nice to Have
Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI solutions
Experience integrating Large Language Models into business processes
Python programming skills
Experience with REST APIs and third-party integrations
Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and CI/CD methodologies
Experience mentoring junior colleagues or leading small technical teams
