JOB TITLE: Human-centred Design Specialist

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Regular consultancy contract (CST) Level II

UNIT/DIVISION:Digital Services (TECD) Information Technology Division (TEC)

DUTY STATION (City, Country): HQ – Rome, Italy

DURATION: 11 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Reporting to the Lead of Service Design and User Experience, the Human-centred Design Specialist supports the Technology Division (TEC) in defining the demand for solutions which are aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives by applying knowledge and best practises from areas such as Human-Centred Design (HCD), Service Design and Human Factors (HF).

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

•Scope out and lead strategic discovery activities to prioritize value propositions for end user andkey stakeholder categories (i.e. staff on the ground, governments,



partners, beneficiaries) atboth HQ and field level in support of digital transformation initiatives.

•Investigate and design new customer journeys and model business process areas

•Establish and drive the orchestration and alignment across design, business, technology,products and strategy stakeholders, and end users for integrated end-to-end omni-channelexperiences.

•Oversee research and design activities carried out by design teams at the product level toensure the implemented technologies deliver against the vision, are useful, usable and used.

•Support colleagues across the organization to build the culture, practices and rituals needed toensure a service-oriented culture that puts people at the centre.

•Provide decision-making support on the evolution of the WFP UI Toolkit into a Design System, byadvising on the scaling strategy with a focus on streamlining user experience implementationand quality assurance in product development.

•Any other duties as required for the successful delivery of the product or service.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

•Strategic advice and guidance, including guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

•Design and facilitation of discovery and user experience activities aimed to understand businessand user needs, in line with corporate priorities and quality standards.

•Research, analysis, and processes and service models, design artefacts.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

Eligible for Occasional telecommuting as defined in the WFP Human Resources Manual Chapter V Section 7.8.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education

University degree (or equivalent working experience), preferably at the advanced level, in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or related fields.

Experience

Six to ten years’ experience with User Experience (UX), and a proven track record of planning, leading and executing related activities.

Experience in digital required, with preference for international development and humanitarian aid.

Knowledge & Skills:

Human Factors (HF), Information Architecture (IA), Human-Centred Design (HCD), Ethnographic analysis, Project Management. Design Workshops, Iterative Design, Meta-analysis, User Analysis, Cognitive walkthrough, Anthropo-technology.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable
