Experteer Overview In this role you will provide technical and scientific support for OFFLU activities on animal influenza, coordinating surveillance, data analysis, and global information sharing. You will work within FAO's One Health framework to strengthen laboratory capacity and synergize with partners like WOAH and WHO. The role emphasizes leveraging bioinformatics and molecular epidemiology to inform vaccine decisions and risk assessment, while advancing global data sharing and strategic collaborations. This position offers a mission‐driven opportunity to shape avian influenza surveillance at an international scale.
Responsibilities Coordinate and deliver OFFLU technical activities and workplans
Update and implement OFFLU strategic/technical frameworks and the FAO-WOAH avian influenza strategy
Identify research gaps and promote innovation in influenza surveillance
Contribute to global/regional initiatives and Tripartite/Quadripartite processes
Strengthen laboratory capacity and molecular surveillance for influenza
Analyze genetic, antigenic,
and epidemiological data from OFFLU networks
Support data‐sharing mechanisms and Nagoya Protocol considerations
Contribute to EMPRES‐i modules on genomic epidemiology
Coordinate OFFLU technical groups and liaise with reference labs and partners
Facilitate information sharing across regional networks
Engage with international partners (WOAH, WHO, research institutions)
Organize OFFLU meetings, technical consultations, and global conferences
Contribute to WHO Influenza Vaccine Composition Meetings data collection and analysis
Perform advanced analysis of genetic/antigenic data for vaccine strain selection and risk assessment
Support development of animal health vaccine composition processes (AIM) for counties
Draft scientific publications, reports, statements, and policy documents
Develop communication materials and update technical guidelines (e.g., diagnostic tools)
Perform other related duties as required
