The unit supports programme delivery through budget planning and monitoring, payment processing, treasury management, financial reporting, and internal control oversight, while contributing to strategic decision-making and risk management.
/ph3JOB PURPOSE: /h3pTo support efficient financial management by coordinating finance processes, analyzing financial data, and providing timely and accurate information to strengthen operational performance and decision-making.
/ph3DURATION: /h3p12 Months, (Renewable based on availability of funds, business needs and performance) /ph3KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive) /h3pWithin delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer, the Finance Associate will serve as a cross-cutting process owner, supporting two workstreams including Internal Control Operations Oversight.
Specifically, the Finance Associate will be responsible for the following generic duties: /pulliProvide procedural and technical support to staff within the areas of finance and budget, to ensure compliance with WFP financial policies, rules and regulations.
/liliSupport the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures and assist in setup and implementation of proper accounting procedures, systems and cash controls.
/liliMonitor the daily cash position in order to optimize the use of surplus cash and maximize returns on investment through the liquidity portfolio.
/liliMonitor the centralized registry system in order to process all payments to internal staff and invoices to external suppliers in a timely manner and in accordance with WFP standards.
/liliContribute to the preparation, implementation and monitoring of budgets, monitor expenditure and budget forecasts, to ensure that relevant future funding requirements are met.
/liliCo-ordinate with other teams in order to ensure that all financial and administrative services are being performed efficiently and in line with the needs of the wider team.
/liliMonitor account balances and process financial transactions in an accurate and timely manner, to avoid the occurrence of an overdraft.
/liliMonitor and analyze general ledger accounts in order to initiate and achieve corrective actions.
/liliCompile data from the WFP database and systems in order to assist in generating and analyzing financial reports on a monthly basis.
/liliAllocate tasks to other support staff, provide guidance and on-the-job training in management of financial resources (e.g. managing the petty cash/sub-imprest account, review and analyze vendor and balance sheet accounts, etc.), to ensure services are delivered consistently and to the required standards.
/liliRemain on stand-by and follow standard emergency preparedness practices in order to meet immediate emergency requirements for further service on the job and in the field.
/li /ulh3STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS: /h3pbEducation: /b Completion of secondary school education.
A post-secondary certificate i.e. University degree in Accounting Finance is highly desirable.
/ppbExperience: /b At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, budget, or administrative support functions.
/ppExperience in data processing, reconciliation, and financial record-keeping is mandatory.
/ppbLanguage /b: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic.
/ppbRequired Skills and Knowledge: /b /pulliKnowledge of internal controls, risk management, and monitoring mechanisms /liliKnowledge of developing budgets and forecasts, /liliAbility to incorporate information from various sources as appropriate to monitor KPIs.
/liliKnowledge of tracking and compiling financial reports /liliKnowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices /li /ulh3Desired Skills and Knowledge /h3pRelevant experience within the United Nations system or international organizations, including familiarity with UN financial rules, procedures, and systems, is desirable.
