The Field Animal Health
Specialist will be based in one of FAO’s intervention governorates (Assiut or Beheira).
Reporting Lines The Field Animal Health
Specialist will work under the direct supervision of FAO Representative in Egypt, the day-to-day guidance of the Project Coordinator and in close collaboration with FAO Egypt Livestock and Animal Health team.
Technical Focus
Animal health, disease surveillance and control, capacity development, technical support to One Health approach and animal health project activities.
Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of animal health and livestock activities in the project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) “Tackling Climate Change Through Sustainable Livestock Management” GCP/EGY/040/ITA. Conduct field assessments, identify animal health priorities, and support disease surveillance, vaccination campaigns, outbreak investigations, and emergency response activities.
Promote good animal husbandry practices, biosecurity, animal welfare, antimicrobial stewardship, and the One Health approach through field interventions and technical guidance. Organize and deliver training, field demonstrations, and capacity-building activities for veterinarians, para-veterinarians, community animal health workers, extension staff, and livestock producers, and develop the necessary technical and training materials. Coordinate with the General Organization for Veterinary Services (GOVS), local veterinary authorities, research institutions, implementing partners, and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of project activities.
Monitor field activities, collect and analyze technical data, contribute to monitoring and evaluation, and prepare technical reports, mission reports, training reports, and other project documentation. Contribute to the preparation of annual work plans, technical specifications, procurement documents,
and other technical outputs required for project implementation. Support the organization of technical meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
