- Description: _Your project will form part of the Neurotechnology Work Package within the Brain and Machines Flagship at IIT. In line with the Flagship’s overarching goal of advancing our understanding of intelligence in both biological and artificial systems, your research will concentrate on creating computational methods for continuously acquiring and processing multiscale and multimodal neural data from animal models in a behavioural context. These methods will support feedback-controlled interventions aimed at studying brain functions and investigating strategies for mitigating deviations from physiological conditions associated with disease. The project will primarily be carried out within the Microtechnology for Neuroelectronics Research Unit, which is led by L. Berdondini. The unit has an excellent track record in high-resolution electrode neurotechnologies and neuroscience research,
and is actively involved in promoting innovation through technology transfer and startup integration. You will also collaborate with other IIT research units specialising in AI and neuroscience. The core objective of your research is to develop real-time processing and AI-driven control strategies to enable longitudinal studies in mice. These studies will leverage the rich data provided by chronically implanted active dense neural probes to explore new avenues for brain-machine interaction based on multiscale neural signals, particularly in the context of disease. Key responsibilities: - Develop computational approaches to extract and quantify features representing brain states during animal behaviour, using high-resolution neural data from chronically implanted intracortical CMOS probes.
- Implement real-time processing pipelines and integrate them into computing hardware for closed-loop neural feedback control.

- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Physics, Bioengineering or equivalent
- Experience in coding for neural data analysis (Python or equivalent)
- Expertise in data management for high-resolution neural data Desirable expertise: - Previous experience in electrophysiology, AI models and/or machine learning is a plus
- Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
