R&D; Thermal Engineer
Location: Turin, Italy
Full-Time
Salary Range: €40,000 - €70,000
Join ORiS and help build the future of energy in space.
At ORiS, we are building the technologies that will power the next generation of space missions. Through laser-based wireless power transmission, we aim to overcome the energy limitations of today’s satellites and enable longer, more capable, and more resilient operations in orbit.
As a R&D; Thermal Engineer, you will be responsible for the thermal design, analysis, and verification of spacecraft subsystems, ensuring optimal performance across all mission phases, from concept to in-orbit operations. This is mostly an R&D; position.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team on pioneering missions, including our flagship demonstration of laser-based Wireless Power Transmission between satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
What You Will Do
- Design and develop thermal control systems for spacecraft and payloads
- Lead the maturation of the Thermal Control System (TCS) from TRL 4 to TRL 7, validating performance first in laboratory conditions and then in a representative environment (parabolic flight, 0g)
- Perform thermal analyses (steady-state and transient) using industry-standard tools
- Support thermal vacuum testing and model correlation activities
- Support the integration of the TCS with the WPT satellite, working closely with the space team
- Define thermal requirements and contribute to system-level trade-offs
- Collaborate with mechanical,
electrical, and systems engineering teams
- Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and verification activities
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Energy or Physics Engineering
- Proficiency with thermal analysis tools (ESATAN-TMS, Thermal Desktop, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of ECSS standards and space qualification processes
- Fluent English (C1/C2 mandatory)
Nice to Have
- Experience with thermal vacuum test campaigns
- At least 3 years of experience in spacecraft thermal engineering
- Previous work on LEO satellite programs
Why ORiS
- Work on innovative satellite missions and advanced space technologies
- Play a key role in shaping system-level decisions that directly impact mission success
- Collaborate with highly skilled engineers across multiple technical disciplines
- Gain exposure to cutting-edge space programs and emerging technologies
- Grow professionally within a fast-growing and ambitious space company
- Be part of a culture driven by innovation, ownership, and technical excellence
Our Offer
- Salary Range: €40,000 - €70,000
- EUR 1,000 per year in fringe benefits
- EUR 8 meal vouchers per working day
- Flexible lavoro da remoto arrangements, subject to project needs
- Stock option plan
