This internship focuses on supporting a large scale project for a prominent Italian financial services group to ensure commercial assumptions are backed by rigorous data. You will assist in tracking project milestones and coordinating financial analysis to help the team provide clear, evidence based advisory.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped.
We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense.
Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
As a Project Manager Intern, you will work in a fully remote environment alongside our senior principals to maintain the structure of our advisory engagements. Your primary focus will be supporting the team as they analyze the capital allocation and pricing models for a prominent Italian financial services group. This is not a role for someone who wants to sit in the background:
you will be expected to organize project timelines, flag inconsistencies in data, and ensure that our findings are documented clearly.
Because we are a remote firm, you will need to be self disciplined and comfortable using digital tools to keep the team aligned without the need for a physical office.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assisting in the creation and maintenance of detailed project schedules to track progress on financial audits.
- Coordinating communication between our internal team and the client's representatives to gather necessary documentation.
- Reviewing financial data sets for completeness before they are passed to the senior analysts for deep modeling.
- Drafting status reports that summarize key findings and outstanding questions for our weekly project reviews.
- Documenting the assumptions used in capital allocation models to ensure every conclusion is traceable to a specific data point.
- Monitoring action items from internal meetings to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks during intense project phases.
- Helping to organize our internal knowledge base so that project materials are easily accessible to the remote team.
- Participating in internal discussions where we challenge the client's existing narrative to find where financial logic might be missing.
What You Bring
- A degree or current studies in finance, economics, business administration, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and a willingness to learn how to organize complex spreadsheets.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings in plain English.
- A skeptical mindset that enjoys looking under the hood of a business case to find potential flaws.
- Experience with basic project management tools or simply a highly organized approach to managing your own academic workload.
- Comfort working in a fully remote setting where proactive communication is the only way to stay connected.
- The ability to manage multiple small tasks simultaneously without losing sight of the overall project goal.
- Basic understanding of financial statements like the P&L; and balance sheet.
What We Offer
- A fully remote work arrangement that allows you to contribute from your own space.
- A paid internship with a monthly stipend that is competitive for the current consulting market.
- Direct mentorship from principals who have decades of experience in high stakes financial advisory.
- Practical experience working on a high value project for a major European financial services group.
- Training in our specific methodology for interrogating commercial decisions and financial assumptions.
- Exposure to a principal led work culture that avoids the bureaucracy of larger consulting firms.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that clarity is the most valuable commodity in business. By joining us as an intern, you will see firsthand how financial discipline can change the outcome of a major corporate decision. We value people who are not afraid to ask why a certain number is on the page or to point out when a plan lacks a logical foundation. This role is an opportunity to build a career based on evidence and integrity rather than corporate jargon.
