The Junior Project Officer supports our team in managing the workflows and data requirements for a major Italian financial services client engagement. This role is built for a disciplined individual who wants to learn the mechanics of project delivery while focusing on financial rigor and clear communication.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks.
Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure.
We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism.
We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role This is a full time, fully remote position that sits at the center of our project operations. You will work directly with our principals to keep engagements for our Italian financial services client on track and grounded in accurate data.
While many project roles focus only on timelines, our approach requires you to understand the underlying numbers of the project as well.
You will be part of a team that values accuracy over speed and evidence over assumptions. Because we are a small firm, you will see exactly how decisions are made and how financial models are pressure tested in the real world.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assisting with the documentation of project milestones and tracking progress against financial objectives.
- Gathering data from various sources to support the testing of acquisition and growth assumptions.
- Reviewing project reports to identify discrepancies in the reported numbers or logic.
- Maintaining clear and organized project files that allow the team to audit decisions at any stage.
- Participating in internal meetings to review the status of our work with the Italian financial services client.
- Preparing presentation materials that focus on financial facts and direct analysis rather than corporate fluff.
- Conducting basic research on market conditions or competitor pricing to provide context for our advisory work.
- Supporting the team during the execution phase by monitoring how theoretical models perform in practice.
- Updating internal trackers to ensure all project deliverables meet our standards for clarity and precision.
What You Bring
- A degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field that demonstrates comfort with numbers.
- Practical knowledge of Excel, including the ability to organize data and perform basic calculations correctly.
- A skeptical mindset that leads you to ask why a number is what it is rather than taking it at face value.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in plain, accessible English.
- Great attention to detail and a disciplined approach to staying organized without constant supervision.
- A willingness to learn our specific methodology of financial interrogation and healthy skepticism.
- Availability to work full time in a remote environment while maintaining high standards of accountability.
- An interest in how financial services operate, particularly within large institutions like our current Italian client.
What We Offer
- A fully remote work environment that allows for professional focus and flexibility.
- Direct access to and mentorship from senior principals who are experts in their fields.
- A permanent, tempo pieno contract with pay that is competitive for the entry level market.
- Exposure to high stakes financial decision making and real world execution challenges.
- A working culture that values honest analysis and direct communication over corporate politics.
- Ongoing training in financial modeling and project management disciplines within a consulting context.
- The opportunity to contribute to a significant international project for a major financial services entity.
We believe that the best project officers are those who care about the logic behind the numbers as much as the deadlines on the calendar. At Blue Oak Consulting, we do not just manage tasks: we manage the integrity of the advice we give. This requires a level of curiosity and discipline that goes beyond standard project management. You will be expected to think critically about the data you see and to speak up if something does not look right. It is a demanding role that provides a rare look at how the economics of large scale decisions actually function in a professional advisory setting.
