About Us
We’re Vorwerk Digitalia , part of Vorwerk Engineering —an innovative and globally recognized team within the Vorwerk Group. We’re the minds behind the Kobold Vacuum Cleaner/Robot , revolutionizing home cleaning with cutting-edge IoT and robotics. At Vorwerk Digitalia, we operate at the intersection of cloud solutions, middleware integrations, and smart home robotics , delivering seamless, intelligent connectivity that shapes the future of robotic appliances.
Our Cloud Team is the backbone of this mission, managing the infrastructure that powers our robots, apps, and middleware. As we scale, we’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to help us maintain, secure, and optimize our cloud ecosystem—ensuring reliability, compliance, and efficiency across our AWS environment.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our Cloud Team , focusing on monitoring, maintaining, and evolving our AWS infrastructure and Terraform-managed resources . You’ll act as the bridge between our Product Team (Elixir, Java, Go) and the SRE/Platform Engineering (PE) teams , translating high-level security, compliance, and operational requirements into actionable, team-specific solutions.
This is a technical and collaborative role : you’ll work closely with developers, SREs, and security teams to ensure our cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and aligned with corporate standards —while also bringing low-level expertise in areas like containerization, certificate management, and cloud-native security.
We are looking for a freelancer (contract) in remote work (Italy, GMT+/-2 preferred).
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and maintain our AWS accounts, ensuring cost efficiency,
security, and compliance with corporate and industry standards.
- Own, refine, and scale our Terraform-managed infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of our Elixir, Java, and Go-based services.
- Collaborate with SRE/PE teams to translate their security, compliance, and operational requirements into practical, product-team-friendly implementations.
- Design and enforce best practices for Dockerization, certificate management, and cloud security (e.g., IAM, networking, encryption).
- Automate and optimize deployment pipelines, monitoring, and incident response to reduce toil and improve reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues, from container orchestration to database performance (PostgreSQL, Redis).
- Document and advocate for DevOps standards, ensuring the Product Team can self-serve where possible while adhering to corporate guardrails.
- Stay ahead of AWS and DevOps trends, bringing proactive improvements to our stack.
Must-Have
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, SRE, or Cloud Engineer in a large corporate environment (understanding of compliance, security, and cross-team collaboration).
- Deep AWS expertise : Hands-on experience with EC2, IAM, VPCs, CloudWatch, and security tools (e.g., Snyk, Wiz).
- Terraform proficiency :
Experience writing, maintaining, and scaling Terraform modules for complex infrastructures.
- Containerization and orchestration : Strong Docker knowledge; familiarity with ECS/EKS or similar is a plus.
- Security mindset : Experience with certificate management (ACM, Sectigo, etc.), encryption, and infrastructure hardening .
- Scripting and automation : Proficient in Bash, Python, Go or others for automation and tooling.
- Collaboration skills : Ability to translate technical requirements between SRE/PE and Product teams, balancing corporate standards with team autonomy.
- Problem-solving : Comfortable debugging networking, performance, or security issues in distributed systems.
- Fluent English : Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.).
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, or Kinesis in production environments.
- Familiarity with Elixir, Java, or Go (or willingness to learn).
- Experience in IoT or robotics domains.
Why Join Us?
- Impact : Your work will directly enable the reliability and security of systems powering thousands of robotic devices worldwide.
- Growth : We offer AWS certification training and a culture of continuous learning.
- Collaboration : Join a trusted, skilled team where knowledge is shared, and no one is left to figure things out alone.
- Flexibility : True remote work with respect for autonomy and work-life balance.
- Innovation : Work at the intersection of cloud, IoT, and robotics , solving unique challenges in a dynamic environment.
