- 2 to 6 months**Responsibilities**: - The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI's goals are: - to advance understanding of crime-related problems;
- to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;
- to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;
- to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. This internship is located in the Prevention and Resilience to Crime and Terrorism programme of UNICRI. The intern will report to the Programme Officer coordinating the initiative “Assessing and Addressing the Nexus Between Organized Crime and Terrorism in Africa”. The project is aimed at enhancing the understanding of how crime and terrorism intersect across diverse African contexts and empowering local, national and regional stakeholders to prevent, investigate and prosecute the convergence of terrorism and crime. The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, with an opportunity of extension up to a total period of 6 months. Preferable start date: mid-August 2025. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.



Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer. Key tasks shall include, but not limited to: - Assist in conducting research on terrorism, crimes and illicit trafficking in different regions of the African continent - Support in data analysis and development of research outputs, including drafting reports, policy briefs, and communication materials - Assist in creating content for context-tailored awareness campaigns - Support in mapping local stakeholders to enhance community resilience to crime and terrorism - Assist in drafting and preparing correspondence, background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations etc. - Perform other related duties, as assigned.

- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and French is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
