Full-Stack Product Engineer
Two openings · Junior and senior profiles · Full-time · Milan · Italian required
The role
Vermed is an AI-native healthcare startup building software products for healthcare organisations in Italy. We use the latest advances in AI throughout our products, software-development workflow, and business processes, helping a focused team build and support multiple products. Some of our products already support services accessible to millions of people across Italy. Our goal is to improve health outcomes and reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals.
English is Vermed's company working language. Fluent Italian is required for this position and for work with Italian healthcare organisations.
We are hiring Full-Stack Product Engineers at both junior and senior levels. You will join an engineering department that is taking shape and work on established products already running in production, new capabilities under active development and new Products to develop from scratch.
This is a hands-on product-engineering role across React frontends, Node.js and TypeScript backends, and the AWS infrastructure that supports our products. You will take product problems from understanding and design through implementation, verification, and production rollout.
Because the department is growing, the scope of each role can grow with it. Junior engineers will receive support while building production experience. Senior engineers will take broader ownership, help shape engineering practices, and mentor colleagues. Over time, there will be opportunities to grow into wider technical or team responsibilities.
What you'll do
- Deliver product features across React frontends and Node.js/TypeScript backends.
- Work inside production codebases and contribute to new capabilities without losing sight of reliability and maintainability.
- Translate product requirements into small, reviewable, production-ready changes.
- Contribute across APIs, PostgreSQL databases, automated tests, CI/CD, monitoring, and production debugging.
- Work with AWS infrastructure and Terraform where relevant to the product.
- Improve AI- and LLM-enabled product interactions.
- Participate in product discovery, technical design, implementation, rollout, and production verification.
- Use coding agents as part of the engineering workflow while remaining accountable for judgement, review, security, and testing.
- Document decisions and leave systems easier for the team to understand and maintain.
What we're looking for
- Strong foundations in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, with experience appropriate to the level for which you are applying.
- Product judgement: you seek to understand the user and business problem rather than merely complete assigned tickets.
- A disciplined approach to testing, security, maintainability, and reviewing AI-generated changes.
- The ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and collaborate with product and engineering colleagues.
- Based in Milan or the Milan metropolitan area and available for regular in-person collaboration.
- Fluent Italian and professional English. English is Vermed's company working language.
For junior profiles
- Early professional experience, internships, substantial personal projects, or another credible record of building software.
- Sound engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly with feedback.
- Curiosity about product development, production systems, and AI-assisted engineering.
For senior profiles
- Approximately five or more years of professional software-product experience, or a clearly equivalent track record.
- Evidence of shipping, operating, and improving customer-facing production software.
- Confidence reading unfamiliar code and debugging across frontend, backend, database, infrastructure, and third-party services.
- The ability to own technical decisions, raise engineering standards, and support less-experienced colleagues.
Nice to have
- PostgreSQL, Supabase, AWS, Terraform, observability, or real-time systems.
- Experience building or maintaining production features that use large language models.
- Practical experience with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or an equivalent agentic coding environment.
- Healthcare, regulated-software, GDPR, or Italian public-sector experience.
How we work with AI
Coding agents are a normal part of planning, implementation, testing, and documentation at Vermed. Engineers remain accountable for architecture, security, product judgement, verification, review and everything shipped to production.
We do not evaluate candidates on whether they have merely installed an AI coding tool. We look at how they provide context, challenge weak suggestions, review changes, test the result, and decide what should not be delegated.
Working model
These are full-time, Milan-based positions with a work from home working model and regular, pre-planned in-person collaboration in Milan.
