By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.THE ROLE You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.The Nanochemistry Research Unit ( ) at IIT in Genoa, coordinated by Liberato Manna, is seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate in the field of synthetic chemistry, targeting the synthesis of new colloidal nanocrystals. The candidate will be involved in the identification of novel synthesis protocols of nanocrystals.
The synthesized nanocrystals will be characterized with a broad set of analytical tools and eventually integrated into devices such as light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, or solar cells. The candidate will interact on a regular basis with computational scientists in charge of predicting the stability and properties of such nanocrystals. We are offering a two-year contract. The highly interdisciplinary research environment at IIT provides access to a state-of-the‑art computational infrastructure and labs for materials synthesis and characterization.Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be:Develop new methods for the synthesis of colloidal nanocrystals.Characterize such nanocrystals using advanced microscopy and spectroscopy tools.Integrate the nanocrystals in operate/give support with other postdocs/Ph D students/undergrads on various research activities.Report to the group on the progress of your research activities and mentoring students.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSA Ph D in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a related subject.Background in the synthesis of colloidal nanocrystals.Expertise in nanocrystals characterization tools.Expertise in integration of nanocrystals in devices.Strong publication recordGood command of spoken and written EnglishADDITIONAL SKILLSStrong problem-solving attitudeHigh motivation to learnSpirit of innovation and creativityGood in time and priority management skillsAbility to work in a challenging and international environmentAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environmentPossess Analytical Reasoning skills and a growth mindsetCOMPENSATION PACKAGEA yearly gross salary ranging between € 37.000 and 40.000Private health care coverage depending on your role and contractCandidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried out scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% for 6 to 13 years.This open position is financed by European Union – European Research Council through the project “Nanoscale Epitaxial Heterostructures Involving Metal Halides – NEHA” Grant Agreement n° 101095974
