Schmidt Distinguished Professorship at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs (Kissinger Center).

The professorship was established to support a senior faculty member located in SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy, working in collaboration with other members of the Kissinger Center to pursue its mission of historically informed statecraft and strategy.
Candidates with an interest in global affairs, international relations, diplomatic and military history, grand strategy, and efforts to bridge the gap between the worlds of scholarship and policy are encouraged to apply.




We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching focus on issues surrounding emerging technology.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
- Advise and mentor MA and PhD students, including capstone, thesis, and dissertation supervision.
- Maintain an active program of research, writing, and public engagement appropriate to the appointment line—peer‑reviewed scholarship for tenure‑line appointments; substantial policy‑relevant scholarship, reports, testimony, or comparable public‑facing work for Professor of the Practice appointments.
- Build and sustain partnerships with government agencies, international institutions, industry, and civil society organizations.
- Participate in faculty governance and service.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline.
- A record of peer‑reviewed scholarship sufficient for a tenured appointment at a major resear
