***** /b /ppbImpact Modeller – Climate Risks, Energy Systems and Socio?Economic Resilience /b /ppDeadline: August 7th, **** /ph3WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR /h3pWe are seeking four highly motivated early?career researchers with a strong quantitative background to join the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE) at the CMCC Foundation in Milan, Italy.
/ppThe successful candidates will contribute to the development of next?generation climate impact modelling frameworks supporting climate adaptation, energy transitions, and resilience planning across vulnerable regions worldwide.
Their research will focus on understanding how climate change propagates through interconnected human and natural systems, affecting energy systems, water resources, ecosystems, food production, infrastructure, and socio?economic development.
/ppA particular emphasis will be placed on modelling climate impacts across interconnected human and natural systems, including water resources, energy systems, food systems, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, integrating Earth system information with impact models, socio?economic analysis, artificial intelligence, and decision?support tools to support climate adaptation, resilience, and sustainable development.
/ppWorking at the interface of climate science, environmental modelling, artificial intelligence, and socio?economic analysis, the successful candidates will help develop scalable, integrated modelling approaches that translate climate hazards into actionable information for decision?makers.
They will contribute to an open, modular modelling ecosystem and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of climate scientists, economists, engineers, AI experts, and environmental modellers on leading international research initiatives.

/ph3RESPONSIBILITIES /h3ulliDeveloping integrated climate impact modelling approaches linking climate information with energy systems and socio?economic impacts.
/liliAssessing climate risks and adaptation options for energy infrastructure and low?carbon energy transitions under changing climatic conditions.
/liliIntegrate climate, environmental, energy and socio?economic datasets to support multi?sectoral analyses.
/liliDeveloping indicators of climate risk, vulnerability and resilience to inform policy and investment decisions.
/liliApplying data science and machine learning techniques to improve impact modelling, uncertainty analysis and scenario development.
/liliContributing to the development of open, modular and scalable modelling frameworks for climate services and decision support.
/liliCollaborating with interdisciplinary teams working across climate science, economics, engineering and artificial intelligence.
/liliPublishing high?quality scientific research and contributing to international research projects and stakeholder engagement.
/liliContributing to the objectives of the EIEE Institute.
/li /ulh3REQUIREMENTS /h3h3Mandatory requirements: /h3ulliMSc in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Physics,
Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or related disciplines.
/liliExperience and/or strong interest in climate impacts, energy systems, environmental modelling or integrated assessment.
/liliExperience in handling large environmental and climate datasets.
/liliStrong programming skills in Python and experience with scientific data analysis libraries (e.g. xarray, pandas, numpy, scipy, geopandas).
/liliExcellent analytical and problem?solving skills.
/liliProficiency in English (spoken and written, Italian not required), with strong writing and presentation skills.
/liliWillingness to travel for project meetings and conferences /liliAbility to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
/liliStrong communication skills and stakeholder?oriented mindset.
/li /ulh3Preferred qualifications: /h3ulliExperience with machine learning or AI/data?driven techniques applied to environmental systems.
/liliFamiliarity with Earth system, hydrological, or integrated assessment models.
/liliExperience in scenario analysis, uncertainty quantification, or decision?support applications.

/liliThe selected early careers researchers will be based in Milan CMCC office.
/liliThe contract offered for this position will be a Coordinated and Continuous Collaboration contract, starting no earlier than 15 September **** and lasting for ***** months.
/liliThe gross annual salary range for this position is *****K Euros.
The salary offered within the range will be determined based on years of relevant experience, level of seniority, specific technical skills, applying objective and gender?neutral criteria.
