Offer Description
The treatment of high-organic-content (HOC) wastewaters from food-processing industries is a major
environmental challenge due to the high costs and limitations of conventional technologies. Black Soldier Fly larvae (BSFL, Hermetia illucens) offer a promising nature-based solution by converting organic matter
into valuable biomass rich in proteins, lipids, and chitin,
supporting resource recovery within a Circular
Economy framework. Previous research at the University of Padova demonstrated the feasibility of the
patented LarWaR (Larvae for Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery) system, which uses porous
supporting materials saturated with wastewater to allow larval feeding and respiration.
