Job Overview The SGO currently has an exciting opportunity for an experience Clinical Practice Medical Writer to join our Clinical Practice and Research Team. We are looking for an individual to bring their passion and excitement to our fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong scientific writing and editing capabilities, experience in interpreting medical literature, and familiarity with clinical guideline development methodologies, embodying the SGO/Foundation internal values of Service Excellence, Respect, Accountability, and Quality.
What You Will Do The Clinical Practice Medical Writer will support the development of clinical practice guidelines, consensus statements, and scientific publications that advance evidence-based gynecologic oncology care. This role will work closely with the Sr. Manager of Clinical Practice and Research to deliver high-quality editorial, literature review, and manuscript development support for multidisciplinary volunteer author groups, the SGO Clinical Practice Committee, and the Document Review Panel.
Responsibilities Include
- CLINICAL GUIDELINE AND LITERATURE REVIEW SUPPORT - Conduct targeted literature reviews and evidence searches based on key clinical questions and guideline outlines. Synthesize and organize scientific literature to support the development of clinical practice guidelines, consensus statements, and related types of clinical publications.
Provide authors and writing groups with literature summaries, reference materials, and supporting evidence.
Assist in interpreting scientific and clinical research findings into clear, accurate written content. Assist in grading levels of evidence and strength of recommendations using established methodological frameworks such as GRADE and AGREE II.
- MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT, MEDICAL WRITING, AND EDITORIAL SUPPORT – Provide substantive medical writing, including synthesizing scientific evidence and translating expert consensus into clear, accurate recommendations for clinical practice. Draft and revise abstracts, introductions, executive summaries, tables, figures, appendices, and supplementary content in collaboration with authors and subject matter experts. Perform substantive editing, copy editing, formatting, and proofreading throughout the manuscript development process to improve clarity, organization, grammar, and overall quality of manuscripts.
Ensure consistency in tone, terminology, formatting, and style across documents. Prepare manuscripts in accordance with submission requirements for peer-reviewed journals, including Gynecologic Oncology.
- REFERENCE MANAGEMENT – Manage manuscript references using EndNote or similar software. Maintain accurate citation formatting. Oversee reference updates and ensure citation integrity during manuscript revisions.
- COLLABORATION AND PROJECT SUPPORT – Track Work closely with the Sr. Manager of Clinical Practice and Research on clinical practice initiatives and publication timelines. Communicate with volunteer physician authors, multidisciplinary writing groups, and committee leadership. Assist in tracking manuscript progress, revisions, deadlines, and publication deliverables. Support efficient workflow management to help maintain timely completion of writing projects.
Requirements for Success
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, medical, public health, or related field, Master’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in medical writing, scientific editing, clinical research support, or scholarly publication development
- Proven ability to interpret and synthesize scientific literature
- Experience conducting literature searches and reviews
- Strong skills in copy editing, proofreading, and manuscript formatting
- Understanding of evidence-based medicine and clinical guideline methodologies
- Familiarity with EndNote or similar reference management software
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively within a collaborative environment
- Knowledge of gynecologic oncology, oncology, or gynecologic health preferred
- Familiarity with peer-reviewed publishing and journal submission processes preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
In addition, the Clinical Practice Medical Writer will be adept with the use of technology; demonstrate acute detail orientation skills; be committed to quality deliverables; exercise strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with ease and accuracy; be a reliable and collaborative team member; and emulate integrity and professional conduct.
The work of the SGO is conducted primarily in a remote office environment with occasional requirements to be onsite for group meetings and events. Travel is required approximately 2-5 days per year.
Compensation And Benefits
We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience. The hiring range for this position is $82,000 to $90,000 annually.
