Position Overview
Title: Youth Sports and Fitness Assistant – Equipment & Facilities (Part‑time, 20‑34 hours/week)
Location: Aviano AB, Italy (31 Force Support Squadron)
Pay: $16.05 – $18.70 per hour
Schedule: Regular part‑time; guaranteed 20 hours per week with up to 34 hours as needed, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Issue, receive, and maintain recreational equipment; keep receipts and conduct post‑use damage inspections.
- Identify age‑appropriate equipment, select vendors, and procure gear when needed.
- Ensure sufficient supplies are on hand and all equipment is in good working condition, addressing safety concerns.
- Instruct children and youth on proper use of equipment.
- Assist in setting up sports events and participating in athletic programs such as fun runs or base‑wide events.
- Maintain an effective safety and accident prevention program.
- Conduct daily safety and maintenance checks of facilities, grounds, and outdoor recreation areas.
- Identify and eliminate observable hazards on playing surfaces and evaluate fences, bleachers, and other structures for safety.
- Oversee upkeep and maintenance of fields and facilities, ensuring proper marking and lining prior to use.
- Operate field‑maintenance equipment (lawn mowers, tractors with attachments, edging and pruning tools, trimmers, rakes, trucks).
- Apply fertilizers, seeds, and herbicides as required.
- Accurately and promptly complete incident/accident reports for any injuries or accidents during sporting events.
- Enforce policies and procedures with parents, volunteers, and youth during events.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Work in indoor and outdoor settings, potentially under adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications
- High‑school graduate or equivalent with verifiable proof.
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Knowledge of youth activities regulatory requirements, policies, and practices.
- Understanding of recreation and leisure program planning concepts, principles, and methodology for youth development.
- Experience in youth sports or fitness programming, preferably with participants aged 6‑18 years.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform field‑maintenance tasks.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid state driver’s license and AFI license to operate vehicles.
- Ability to obtain and maintain current immunizations, including annual influenza vaccines, and pass required background checks and Child Care Tier1 investigation.
- U.S. citizen or NATO citizen with a valid U.S. permanent resident card.
