The Division is also responsible for FAO's activities related to the management and conservation of the living aquatic resources used by fisheries and aquaculture, including the biodiversity and ecosystem maintenance, with particular emphasis on most vulnerable and threatened species and habitats; management of responsible fisheries and aquaculture in accordance with modern management standards and best practices; development of fisheries technology, with due regard to the protection of the environment, food security and the well-being of fishing communities, including the safety of fishers and fishing vessels.



/p h3Reporting Lines /h3 pThe Young Professional Officer (Aquatic Value Chain) reports to the NFIMV Team Leader, under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director, NFI. /p h3Technical Focus /h3 pSustainable aquaculture value chain development. /p h3Key Results /h3 pResearch, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of assigned projects, products and services. /p h3Key Functions /h3 ul liAnalyses relevant technical social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data and/or statistics for input in various documents. /li liMaintains records and updates databases and web pages. /li liProvides technical support to various projects. /li liCollaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc. /li liParticipates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners. /li /ul h3Specific Functions /h3 ul liSupports the formulation, interpretation and implementation of policy guidelines and best practices for efficient national, regional and international implementation of sustainable aquaculture value chains development under the framework of Blue Transformation. /li liSupports meetings, expert workshops and consultations with government and non-governmental representatives on policy dialogues or discussions on sustainable aquaculture value chain development. /li liContributes to the development of project proposals for Blue Transformation, with specific focus on sustainable aquaculture value chains, based on related technical guidelines, including the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture, FAO Priority Programme Areas and relevant decisions of the COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and Sub-Committee on Fish Trade. /li liProvides technical support and advisory services to the successful implementation of aquaculture value chain projects. /li liContributes to establishing and maintaining online knowledge platforms, and to the development of communication material for sustainable aquaculture value chains. /li liContributes to the organization of technical workshops/consultations for aquaculture value chains-related indicators in FAO Priority Programme Areas and Blue Transformation. /li liSupports the development and dissemination of knowledge products of sustainable aquaculture value chains, including the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture. /li liSupports the design and implementation of capacity development interventions adapted to different stakeholders and institutions involved in the development of sustainable aquaculture value chains. /li liProvides support to pilot country processes of sustainable aquaculture value chains and complementary strategies at national and farm level. /li liSupports gathering and analysing information and data on global fish trade and markets, with particular focus on contemporary issues affecting the trade and market dynamics within the global' aquaculture value chain development.



/li liPerforms other related duties as required. /li /ul h3CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING /h3 ul liAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fisheries, aquaculture, food sciences, biology, management or related disciplines. /li liOne year of relevant experience in the aquaculture, aquatic food value chains, or trade and market sector. /li liWorking knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish). /li /ul h3Technical/Functional Skills /h3 ul liWork experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable. /li liRelevance of experience in sustainable aquaculture value chain development, aquaculture technology, aquatic food safety, nutrition processing, value addition, loss and waste reduction. /li liWork experience in different countries and regions, especially in developing countries and countries in transition. /li liRelevance of experience in organizing international meetings, seminars and training courses. /li liRelevance of experience in policy and technical guidance in blue transformation. /li liRelevance of experience in collecting and analysing and summarizing technical information and data /li liRelevance of knowledge and experience in blue economy, policy advice and analysis, food and nutrition security, food systems, and aquaculture /li liRelevance of experience in the preparation, editing and revision of technical/scientific documents /li liRelevance of experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations as well as donors and government institutions and agencies. /li /ul pNB Please note that candidates should be 32 years of age or younger as of 31 December of the year of application. /p pPlease note that all candidates should adhere to FAO Values of Commitment to FAO, Respect for All and Integrity and Transparency. /p pFAO staff are expected to adhere to FAO Values of Commitment to FAO, Respect for All and Integrity and Transparency. /p h3GENERAL INFORMATION /h3 ul liExtension of fixed term appointments is based on certification of performance and availability of funds /li liFAO reserves the right not to make an appointment. /li liAppointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. /li /ul h3CONDITIONS OF SERVICE /h3 pA competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
