**Duties**: - Independently performs a complex and diverse array of screening and diagnostic mammography examinations.
- As the primary breast imager, performs a variety of mammographic examinations with associated quality assurance and quality control measures.
- Assist radiologists in the performance of complex procedures such as mammogram guided needle localizations, vacuum-assisted stereotactic core breast biopsies, stereotactic needle localizations, and galactograms.
- Assist radiologists in performing breast ultrasound guided core biopsies, ultrasound guided needle localizations, ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations or cyst aspirations.
- Ensure that biopsy specimens are properly labeled with patient identification and are delivered to the laboratory for analysis.
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly quality control/assurance processes on all Mammography Imaging equipment.
- Trains others in mammography and all related quality control and assurance procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Provides performance improvement recommendations and actively participates in continuous process improvement specifically regarding mammography, as well as for the entire Radiology Department. **Requirements**:
**Conditions of Employment**: - Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction 1315.19.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association prior to starting the position.



Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position requires the employee to have and maintain American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) certification.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
- This position may require you to be on-call on a rotational basis, responding to emergency calls at times beyond the normal duty day.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs.
- 5 hours of Continuing Education in Breast Ultrasound is preferred but not required. **Qualifications**:
**Who May Apply: US Citizens** **Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Mammography)**:
**Radiology Certification**: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1)



have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: - (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a Doctor of Medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
- (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency. **In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below**:
**Specialized experience**: One year of specialized experience performing radiologic examinations to include mammograms; and setting up the exam room. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR
