Call for Manifestation of Interest

Post-doc position

We invite expressions of interest for a research position within the Horizon Europe project GROWT5 to be carried out at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).

GROWT5 develops a novel wearable co-pilot system for physical and cognitive augmentation in advanced manufacturing, combining multimodal biosensing, tactile feedback, AI-driven decision support, neuromusculoskeletal digital twins, and collaborative robotics. The project aims to promote safe, adaptive, and human-centred human–robot collaboration by enhancing workers’ physical and cognitive capabilities while preserving their autonomy, well-being, and trust.

The successful candidate will investigate how cognitive and sensorimotor augmentation transforms human agency, autonomy, embodiment, and responsibility. Research activity will be carried out in close collaboration with roboticists, neuroengineers, computer scientists, and cognitive scientists.





Main responsibilities

The selected researcher will contribute to:
- investigating how wearable augmentation systems affect cognition, perception, attention, decision making, motor control, learning, agency, and embodiment;
- analysing the ethical implications of cognitive and sensorimotor augmentation technologies throughout their design, development, and deployment;
- identifying philosophical challenges associated with adaptive human–AI–robot collaboration, shared autonomy, continuous physiological monitoring, cognitive assistance, and closed-loop human-machine interaction;
- identifying and critically analysing the ethical values and principles relevant to the project (e.g., autonomy, dignity, responsibility, privacy, fairness, transparency, trust, human oversight);
- contributing to project deliverables, scientific publications, consortium activities, and ethical guidelines for the consortium;
