We are looking for a lawyer with outstanding analytical and legal-writing skills, and a strong commitment to excellent client service, to advise leading international clients on complex EU payments and financial regulatory matters. You will report directly to and work closely with founding partner Andrea De Matteis on regulatory issues currently shaping the European payments market — including PSD3/PSR, agentic commerce and crypto-assets. Our written work is read by the European Commission, the EBA and national supervisory authorities. Clear, concise and rigorous drafting is therefore at the heart of this role. What you will do Draft legal opinions, position papers, consultation responses and other client-facing work on EU and Italian payments regulation, including PSD2/PSD3, PSR, EMD2, IFR, Mi CA, DORA, and e IDAS, as well as occasional banking-regulatory matters. Take ownership of regulatory analyses, from identifying and assessing the relevant primary sources to producing a clear, practical and client-ready document. Translate complex and evolving legal issues into concise advice for sophisticated international clients. Support clients in their interactions with EU and Italian authorities, including meeting preparation and written follow-up.



Advise on competition matters in the payments sector, typically representing *****% of the role but varying by year, including payments-related aspects of the Digital Markets Act and occasional contentious proceedings. Guide and review the research and drafting of more junior lawyers and contribute actively to their professional development. This is a legal advisory and analysis role, not a compliance or audit position. Who we are looking for Approximately 4–8 years of post-qualification experience as an avvocato or equivalent. We are open to exceptional candidates outside this range where their experience and capabilities are a strong fit. Strong experience in EU financial regulation, payments or competition law, gained at a law firm, EU institution, regulatory authority or in another relevant professional setting. Specific payments expertise is highly desirable but not essential. Outstanding analytical and drafting skills. You should be able to produce clear, structured and rigorous work and, depending on your experience, handle complex assignments with a high degree of autonomy. Fluent Italian and English (C1/C2, written and spoken). Intellectual curiosity and an interest in understanding not only what the law currently requires, but how regulation and markets are developing. Sound judgement,

Annual gross professional compensation of €50,000–€85,000, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a performance-based component. Compensation is reviewed annually and is stated before VAT and the applicable Cassa Forense contribution. For particularly senior candidates, compensation will be agreed individually.
