***** /b /ppbImpact Modeller – Climate Risks, Energy Systems and Socio?Economic Resilience /b /ppDeadline: September 15th, **** /ph3WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR /h3pWe are seeking two outstanding/ambitious mid?level researchers with a strong track record in climate impact modelling, environmental systems modelling, integrated assessment, or related disciplines to join the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE) at the CMCC Foundation in Milan, Italy.
/ppThe successful candidates will contribute to the scientific development of next?generation climate impact modelling frameworks supporting climate adaptation, energy transitions, and resilience planning across vulnerable regions worldwide.
/ppThe position focuses on understanding how climate change propagates through interconnected human and natural systems, affecting energy systems, water resources, ecosystems, food production, infrastructure, and socio?economic development.
The successful candidate will lead the development of integrated modelling approaches capable of translating climate hazards into actionable information for decision?makers and supporting evidence?based adaptation strategies.
/ppA particular emphasis will be placed on modelling climate impacts across interconnected human and natural systems, including water resources, energy systems, food systems, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, integrating Earth system information with impact models, socio?economic analysis, artificial intelligence, and decision?support tools to support climate adaptation, resilience, and sustainable development.
/ppThe successful candidates will play a leading role in shaping a new generation of modular, scalable, and policy?relevant impact modelling frameworks, working within interdisciplinary teams spanning climate science, engineering, economics, AI, and environmental systems analysis.
/ppBeyond scientific research, the position offers the opportunity to coordinate international research activities, supervise junior researchers and PhD students, contribute to strategic project development, and help shape the future research agenda of EIEE in climate impacts, adaptation, and resilience.

/ph3ROLE /h3pThe successful candidates will work within the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), contributing to the scientific leadership of research activities on climate impacts, resilience, and integrated environmental modelling.
/ppThe selected mid?level researchers will contribute to the development of innovative modelling frameworks, coordinate interdisciplinary research activities, support project management of large international projects, supervise junior researchers, and actively contribute to the preparation of competitive national and international research proposals.
/ph3RESPONSIBILITIES /h3ulliLead the development of integrated climate impact modelling frameworks linking climate information with energy systems, socio?economic systems and adaptation strategies.
/liliCoordinate scientific activities across interdisciplinary teams working on climate science, economics, engineering, artificial intelligence and environmental modelling.
/liliDesign and implement multi?sectoral climate impact assessments and resilience analyses under future climate and socio?economic scenarios.
/liliDevelop innovative methodologies integrating Earth system information, impact models, AI techniques and decision?support systems.
/liliLead the development of climate risk, vulnerability and resilience indicators to support policy and investment decisions.
/liliContribute to the scientific coordination and project management of large collaborative national and international research projects.
/liliSupervise PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and early?career scientists.
/liliDevelop new research directions and strengthen collaborations with leading international research institutions.
/liliContribute actively to fundraising activities, including the preparation and coordination of competitive research proposals (e.g. Horizon Europe, ERC,
international foundations and philanthropic initiatives).
/liliPublish high?quality scientific research in leading international journals and represent CMCC and the EIEE Institute in international scientific networks and conferences.
/liliContribute strategically to the scientific development and long?term objectives of the EIEE Institute.
/li /ulh3REQUIREMENTS /h3h3Mandatory requirements /h3ulliPhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Climate Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or related disciplines.
/liliDemonstrated experience in climate impact modelling, integrated assessment, Earth system applications, environmental modelling or related quantitative disciplines.
/liliStrong programming skills in Python and experience with scientific computing and environmental datasets.
/liliExperience in developing models, scenario analysis and quantitative assessment frameworks.
/liliProven scientific publication record in peer?reviewed international journals.
/liliExperience working in interdisciplinary and international research environments.
/liliExcellent communication and scientific writing skills.
/liliProficiency in English (spoken and written, Italian not required), with strong writing and presentation skills.
/liliWillingness to travel for project meetings and conferences.
/liliAbility to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
