Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and technically minded Project Engineer (m/f/d) to join our engineering team supporting automation projects for cruise vessels and commercial ships.
In this role, you will contribute to the design and documentation of marine automation systems, working closely with experienced colleagues, customers, suppliers, and shipyards. The position offers an excellent opportunity for engineers with a strong electrical or electrotechnical background who are eager to develop their expertise within maritime automation and control systems.
You will be involved in the complete engineering process, from system layouts and electrical documentation to testing, commissioning support, and customer interaction. While prior maritime experience is beneficial, a proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and solid engineering fundamentals are the most important qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop project-specific automation documentation based on established standard documentation packages
- Design system layouts and architecture diagrams for marine automation systems and electrical installations
- Prepare and maintain input/output (I/O) lists and define system interconnections
- Develop electrical drawings for cabinets, panels, and automation systems
- Define cabinet layouts, hardware configurations, and electrical interfaces
- Prepare cable lists and support cable routing and connection definitions for automation systems
- Produce technical documentation and drawings for NACOS Marine products, including monitoring, sensing, and control solutions
- Perform electrical engineering activities, including calculations, panel layouts, and electrical load balance assessments
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and prepare documentation for Classification Society approvals
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, shipyards, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution
- Prepare progress reports and engineering status updates for assigned activities
- Participate in vessel surveys, system start-ups, commissioning activities, and on-site support when required
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share technical knowledge with colleagues
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Naval Engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong electrical and electrotechnical knowledge and understanding of industrial or automation systems
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to engineering tasks
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers
- Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Willingness to travel to shipyards and vessels as required (approximately 30–40%)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with marine automation, electrical systems, or industrial control systems
- Familiarity with switchboards, control cabinets, instrumentation, and automation hardware
- Knowledge of maritime regulations, classification society requirements, or shipbuilding processes
- Experience with FAT activities and commissioning support is considered an advantage
