We are looking for a Data Engineer to join an international project supporting a European Commission institution based in Ispra, Italy. The selected professional will contribute to the development, maintenance and operation of advanced data-driven solutions focused on environmental analysis, scientific modelling and policy support activities. Working within a multicultural and highly collaborative environment, you will help manage complex datasets, optimise data workflows, and support innovative initiatives involving analytics, machine learning, and environmental impact assessment.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities):

- Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines integrating data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, governance, security, and accessibility throughout the entire data lifecycle.
- Develop and optimise relational and non-relational databases, including SQL performance tuning and database management activities.
- Process, validate, and manage environmental and scientific datasets using Python, R, and SQL.
- Support the maintenance, enhancement, and operation of data-intensive modelling and analytical tools.
- Retrieve,



organise and prepare datasets required for large-scale analytical and modelling activities.
- Execute data workflows, model runs, and data processing activities, producing structured outputs and analytical datasets.
- Implement metadata management and data governance best practices.
- Contribute to the development of AI and machine learning solutions for data analysis, optimisation, and modelling purposes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation describing workflows, data sources, processing logic, validation methods, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams supporting research, analytics, and evidence-based decision-making activities.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements):

- At least 3 years of higher education completed and evidenced by a diploma.
- Minimum 5 years of post-secondary professional experience.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in Data Engineering or similar positions.
- Strong experience in data integration, processing, validation, and data management.
- Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL technologies.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, and SQL.
- Experience with data engineering and data governance frameworks such as Talend, Collibra, Purview, Databricks, or Oracle solutions.




- Knowledge of data visualisation tools including Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Services, or AWS DataZone.
- Understanding of metadata management, data governance, data security, and access control principles.
- Experience with machine learning, AI-based solutions, or advanced analytics initiatives.
- Experience working with environmental, scientific, research, or highly analytical datasets will be considered a strong advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional level of English.
