Experteer Overview In this role, you will lead customs and excise compliance for BAT in Italy, ensuring robust governance and timely tax filings. You'll work with local authorities, audits, and cross-functional partners to strengthen indirect tax controls. You'll champion risk management, technology needs, and process improvements to support business growth. This is an opportunity to shape tax strategy across markets and enable BAT's transformation. Responsibilities Oversee classification, licensing, documentation, and filing of customs and excise returns; optimize cash-flow through compliant processes Conduct checks, reviews, and audits of tax policy implementation and monitor performance metrics for indirect taxes Deliver internal indirect tax reporting to support SOx compliance and factory-related reporting Maintain strong relationships with tax, customs,



and excise authorities Assist Area Head in leading customs and excise audits and respond to authority inquiries Lead third-party partners (brokers, logistics, warehousing) to ensure tax-compliant service delivery Assess and implement customs and excise technology requirements and ERP solutions Provide input on indirect tax risk and legislate changes, advising on business impacts of projects like new categories and route-to-market changes Lead training on indirect tax compliance and risk management; drive continuous improvement and manage external advisors Enforce compliance instructions from global/Area/local tax functions and stay updated on tax proposals and changes Qualifications Degree-educated with professional accountancy/legal and/or tax qualifications Minimum 5 years' tax experience in Big 4, multinational, or customs/excise authority, or relevant supply chain role Experience working with tax authorities, conducting tax audits, and defending tax positions Excellent knowledge of local customs and excise laws a
