Senior Director R&D; Portfolio and Program Management

As Senior Director, you will lead the CP R&D; portfolio and PMO, guiding capital equipment programs and product development. You’ll shape governance, prioritization, and resource planning across global teams, driving on-time delivery within budgets and regulatory timelines. You’ll chair the Portfolio Review Committee and partner with CP leadership to optimize portfolio trade-offs and investments. You’ll manage a ~10-person organization across multiple European sites and report to the VP of CP R&D.; This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution to advance life-changing medical innovations.

- Provide strategic oversight of CP Director, Project Heads and Senior Project Managers, ensuring disciplined execution and accountability for timelines, budgets, milestones, and deliverables
- Lead and develop direct reports and teams, establishing clear accountability and succession planning across CP R&D; project leadership
- Oversee portfolio risks, interdependencies, and mitigation to protect timelines and budgets
- Guide project teams to proactively resolve barriers ensuring governance commitments are met
- Chair PRC governance meetings and prepare executives for reviews and updates
- Establish and improve the CP R&D; portfolio operating model, governance cadence, escalation pathways, and standardized practices




- Develop executive dashboards and decision materials showing milestones, budget, resources, risks, and dependencies
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to evaluate trade-offs, resource constraints, investment priorities, and sequencing
- Monitor budgets and resources, providing financial reporting and risk insights to CP R&D; leadership
- Facilitate stakeholder alignment through clear communication and regular updates
- Ensure regulatory and quality alignment with ISO 13485, EU MDR, CE marking and design controls
- Drive process improvement using lean methods and design thinking across the maturity curve
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to raise process maturity across functional areas
- Extensive experience leading complex R&D; programs and PMO functions in MedTech or regulated industries
- Proven track record managing large-scale NPD/NPI programs in a global, matrixed environment
- Senior people leadership for Director-level project leaders with performance coaching
- Broad technical knowledge in medical technology, including design controls and ISO 14971 risk management
- Ability to synthesize business, technical, regulatory, and operational factors across large programs
- Knowledge of EU MDR, CE Marking, ISO 13485; regulatory sensitivity is preferred
- Experience with portfolio governance, capacity planning, executive dashboards, and trade-off recommendations
- BS in engineering, science, business, technology or equivalent; PMP or similar certification preferred
- Travel approx. 30% to Europe and global sites
