Role: Head of Business & Indirect Tax
Salary: starting at €70,000
Location: Milan (hybrid - minimum of 4 days in the office)
We are seeking an outstanding Indirect Tax – Head of Business & Tax – Italy, based in Milan, to lead and commercially scale our Italian indirect tax practice.
This is a senior leadership role requiring a qualified Dottore Commercialista, with deep expertise in Italian VAT (IVA), EU indirect tax, and cross-border eCommerce transactions, combined with strong commercial and operational capability.
The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for the Italian indirect tax division, including technical oversight, revenue growth, team leadership, regulatory engagement, and P&L; accountability.

Indirect Tax Technical Leadership

Lead all Italian VAT (IVA) advisory and compliance services
Oversee:
Domestic and cross-border VAT compliance
OSS/IOSS schemes
EU distance selling rules
Import VAT and customs interaction
E-invoicing (Fatturazione Elettronica) compliance

Advise on supply chain structuring and VAT optimisation
Manage VAT audits and disputes with the Agenzia delle Entrate
Monitor Italian and EU legislative developments impacting indirect tax
Provide risk mitigation strategies for international clients

Business Leadership & P&L; Ownership

Full P&L; responsibility for the Italian indirect tax practice
Drive revenue growth and margin improvement
Develop new advisory revenue streams
Identify cross-selling opportunities across corporate tax, customs, and regulatory services
Build strategic partnerships within the Milan business ecosystem
Contribute to broader European expansion initiatives

Team Development & Operational Oversight

Build and lead a high-performing indirect tax team




Establish robust review and quality control frameworks
Implement scalable processes and automation tools
Ensure alignment with group-wide operational standards
Mentor senior managers and develop succession planning

Governance & Regulatory Compliance

Maintain compliance with professional standards under the Ordine dei Dottori Commercialisti
Ensure AML, engagement, and risk controls are robust
Maintain professional indemnity and regulatory obligations
Act as primary escalation point for high‑risk technical matters

Qualified Dottore Commercialista
Registered with the Ordine dei Dottori Commercialisti e degli Esperti Contabili
8–12+ years of experience in Italian VAT / indirect tax
Strong knowledge of EU VAT Directive and cross‑border trade
Experience handling VAT audits and complex advisory cases
Demonstrated team leadership experience
Fluent Italian and English

Highly Desirable

Experience advising eCommerce or digital marketplace sellers
Exposure to customs and import structuring
Experience working with international advisory groups
Existing professional network in Milan
