The Project Planning Assistant supports our work for a Rome-based international investment group by organizing the technical phases of our financial reviews. You will help maintain the timelines and data structures that allow our team to test the logic of high-stakes commercial decisions.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L; complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
This is a full-time, fully remote position where you will assist project leads in mapping out the logistics and data requirements for complex financial investigations. Rather than managing broad strategy, you will be focused on the mechanics of our engagements for a Rome-based international investment group. The environment is disciplined and focused on evidence. You will work within a small team that values logic over presentation style,
helping us stay organized as we move from the initial hypothesis through to the execution phase of a project. Because our work is 100 percent remote, you will need to be self-sufficient and comfortable using digital tools to coordinate tasks across different time zones.
What You Will Be Doing
- Updating project timelines and tracking the progress of data collection from various departments to ensure we meet technical deadlines.
- Assisting with the initial review of financial documents to flag missing or inconsistent information that could skew our analysis.
- Organizing internal meetings and maintaining the central records for our engagement with a Rome-based international investment group.
- Helping to build basic financial models in Excel to test how different variable changes affect small-scale assumptions in a growth plan.
- Creating weekly status reports that summarize roadblocks in the project lifecycle without using unnecessary corporate filler.
- Verifying facts and data points in acquisition assumptions to ensure the team is working with accurate figures.
- Supporting the team through the execution phase by monitoring how theoretical plans translate into real world operations.
- Documenting the logic used in our financial models to ensure every step of our interrogation can be audited and explained.
- Providing administrative support to project principals to ensure client requests are addressed promptly and without error.
What You Bring
- A university degree or ongoing studies in finance, economics, business administration, or a related analytical field.
- A high level of comfort with Excel, including the ability to organize large sets of data and perform basic formulas.
- A naturally skeptical mindset that leads you to question common business assumptions rather than accepting them at face value.
- Clear and direct writing skills, with an ability to present information using plain English rather than jargon.
- Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to checking your own work for errors before it reaches a lead advisor.
- The ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining consistent communication with the rest of the team.
- A curiosity about how companies actually make money and where financial plans often fail in the real world.
What We Offer
- Competitive pay that is attractive for an entry level position and reflective of the current market.
- Fully remote working arrangements that offer flexibility and focus on results rather than hours spent at a desk.
- Direct access to the firm's principals, offering a chance to learn from senior advisers on every project we undertake.
- Training in financial discipline and skeptical analysis, moving beyond what is taught in standard business programs.
- A professional environment that is free from corporate politics and focused strictly on the quality and integrity of our work.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that clarity comes from a willingness to look at uncomfortable facts. We stay involved through the execution phase of our projects because we know that reality rarely aligns perfectly with a spreadsheet. This role is a starting point for someone who wants to understand the actual mechanics of capital and commercial decision making within a firm that values honesty and depth. We look for people who are more interested in finding the right answer than in maintaining the corporate status quo.
