Job description and duties
We are looking for an experienced Senior Radar Payload System Engineer to join our engineering team working on advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payloads for Earth Observation and scientific space missions.
The candidate will be responsible for the technical part of assigned radar payload developments throughout the entire project lifecycle, adapting Metasensing products to new requirements and interfaces.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers and industrial partners, the candidate will ensure the technical consistency of the payload, coordinate system engineering activities, prepare technical reviews and project milestones.
This position is intended for engineers with at least 8-10 years of experience in space systems engineering, with particular focus on radar development from design to operations.
You will have the opportunity to work on real space missions in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where your technical contribution has direct impact.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
·Â Â Â Â Â Â Coordination of the system engineering activities for assigned radar payload development projects.
·Â Â Â Â Â Â Defining, analysing and maintaining system requirements, architecture and technical budgets.
·Â Â Â Â Â Â Coordinating payload-to-platform interfaces with spacecraft manufacturers and external partners.
·Â Â Â Â Ensuring technical consistency across multidisciplinary engineering teams (RF, electronics, mechanics, thermal, software, AIT and operations).
·Â Â Preparing, maintaining and reviewing technical documentation in compliance with customer and ECSS requirements.
·Â Â Â Â Â Preparing project technical milestones and associated documentation.
·Â Â Â Â Â Supporting integration, verification, validation, commissioning and operational readiness activities.
Required skills and qualifications:
·Â Master’s degree in Space Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline.
·Â Â Â Minimum 8–10 years of professional experience in Space Systems Engineering and Radar Payload development.
·Â Â Strong knowledge of Radar engineering principles, including SAR architectures, radar signal chain and radar performance analysis. Good understanding of RF architectures and high-speed digital electronics used in radar payloads.
·Â Â Â Â Strong knowledge of payload/platform interfaces and spacecraft subsystems.
·Â Â Â Proven experience with system engineering processes, including requirements engineering, interface management, verification and validation.
·Â Â Â Â Experience preparing technical documentation and project reviews.
·Â Â Â Â Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams throughout the project lifecycle.
·Â Â Â Â Familiarity with ECSS standards and the complete space system development lifecycle.
·Â Â Â Â Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with customers, suppliers and institutional stakeholders.
·Â Â Â Â Fluency in English (written and spoken).
·Â Â Â Â Availability for occasional travel.
Nice to have Skills / Qualifications
·Â Â Â Â Â Â Previous involvement in ESA or institutional space programmes.
·Â Â Â Â Â Â Exposure to AIT/AIV campaigns and commissioning activities.
Candidate must be eligible to work in Italy.
Employment condition: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Offered salary range: €55,000–€65,000 gross per year
