ABOUT THE ROLE – Commissioning Engineer
We are looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join an important Oil & Gas project.
Reporting to the Hook-Up & Commissioning Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing and overseeing the commissioning and start-up of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, piping and process systems, ensuring that all systems are tested, verified and safely handed over to Operations in accordance with project requirements, client standards and HSE policies.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Preparation
- Develop commissioning procedures, test packs and system completion dossiers.
- Define commissioning scope, resources, tools, consumables and execution sequences.
- Review and align engineering deliverables, including P&IDs;, SLDs, Cause & Effect charts and loop diagrams.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Vendors and Operations to ensure a smooth transition into commissioning.
Commissioning Execution
- Perform and supervise Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities on:
- Mechanical: pumps, compressors, vessels and rotating/static equipment.
- Electrical: switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS and generators.
- Instrumentation: control loops, transmitters and DCS/PLC logic verification.
- Piping: flushing, leak testing and system pressurization.
- Process: functional and performance testing, utilities and process start-up.
- Monitor system energization, punch list clearance and system walkdowns.
- Ensure safe execution in accordance with PTW, LOTO and SIMOPS procedures.
System Handover
- Participate in Mechanical Completion, Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR) and client sign-offs.
- Verify final documentation, red-marked drawings, calibration reports and test certificates.
- Support performance testing, reliability runs and facility stabilization.
HSE & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with commissioning safety standards.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP and risk assessment activities.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure adherence to PTW and isolation procedures.
- Report incidents and support root cause analysis when required.
Coordination & Interface
- Liaise with Construction, QA/QC, Vendors, Subcontractors and Operations to ensure schedule alignment.
- Manage Category A, B and C punch lists, system readiness and progress reporting.
- Interface with software and instrumentation vendors during control system testing and tuning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline after obtaining the university degree.
- Previous experience in Commissioning and Start-Up activities within Oil & Gas or industrial facilities.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning methodologies and applicable standards, including API, IEC, ASME and ISO.
- Excellent ability to read and interpret P&IDs;, loop diagrams, Cause & Effect matrices and logic diagrams.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary commissioning teams and resolving field issues under pressure.
- Experience with commissioning management systems such as ICAPS, WinPCS, CMS or equivalent.
- Excellent analytical, communication and reporting skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with proven ability to prepare technical reports.
The salary for this role ranges from €40.000 to €50.000
The position is governed by the National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL) for the Commerce and Tertiary Sector applied by our company.
The final salary within the stated range will be determined based on the candidate's technical skills, relevant experience in the role, and the outcome of the selection process, using objective and neutral criteria.
In exceptional cases, where a candidate's profile significantly exceeds the requirements associated with the stated salary range, a review of the compensation may be considered, subject to internal approval.
