Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Gemologist role based in Milan. The Gemologist will evaluate and classify diamonds and colored gemstones, conducting detailed inspections for quality, authenticity, and grading standards. Typical responsibilities include performing appraisals, preparing reports and certificates, maintaining accurate records, and supporting sales teams with technical product information. The role also involves collaborating with purchasing and inventory teams to assess incoming and existing stock, advising on pricing and market trends,
and ensuring compliance with ethical sourcing and industry guidelines. The Gemologist will interact with clients and partners as needed, providing clear, professional communication on gemstone characteristics and value.
Qualifications
- Strong Gemology expertise, including gemstone identification, grading, and familiarity with industry standards and laboratory practices.
- Jewelry Appraisal and Appraisal skills, with the ability to evaluate quality, condition, and market value for a range of pieces.
- Experience working with Estate Jewelry, including vintage and antique items, and understanding of their unique valuation considerations.
- Knowledge of Watches and related luxury timepieces, with the ability to support basic appraisal and quality assessments.
- Relevant gemological certification (e.g., GIA, FGA, or equivalent) and/or degree in Gemology, Jewelry Design, or a related field.
- Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and comfort working with microscopes, measuring tools, and laboratory equipment.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly, work collaboratively with sales and inventory teams, and manage time effectively.
- Professional proficiency in English; knowledge of Italian and other European languages is an advantage.
