Major Gifts Officer Job Description | Angelicum POSITION SUMMARY The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for building relationships with new, existing, and potential donors and securing support for the mission of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum).
The MGO will report to the Chief Advancement Officer, but will work closely with the whole fundraising team, including the Director of Development, Director of Annual Giving, and other staff.
The ideal candidate will eloquently articulate the Dominican and theological mission of the university, be sociable, cheerful, creative, and resourceful, and possess a strong network within the Catholic philanthropic space.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Cultivation and Solicitation Manage a reasonable portfolio of major gift relationships, leaving room to investigate and steward new donors.
Collaborate with the fundraising team to create tailored approaches for specific donors or donor segments and then execute on that strategy.
Personally solicit major gifts and collaborate with university leadership on principal gift opportunities as appropriate.
Conduct meaningful face-to-face meetings (in person or virtual) with donors and prospects throughout the year.
In partnership with Director of Annual Giving, develop a systematic process for welcoming new direct mail donors and moving them into the major gifts pipeline over time.
Stewardship Make thank you phone calls, write thank you notes, and travel for in-person meetings to meet, thank, and solicit donors.




Prepare compelling gift proposals tailored to donor interests and university priorities.
Work closely with annual giving, communications, alumni relations, and university leadership to ensure coordinated donor engagement.
Identify lapsed donors who might reengage or active donors who are underengaged and strive for renewals and upgrades.
Research, Identification and Administration As appropriate, identify new prospects and find ways of establishing communication.
Ensure timely stewardship following gifts through reports, acknowledgments, impact updates, and ongoing communication.
Represent the Angelicum at conferences, Catholic gatherings, alumni events, and donor functions in the United States and internationally as appropriate.
Partner with faculty, clergy, alumni, and institutional leaders to expand the university s philanthropic network.
Maintain accurate and timely records of all donor interactions within the CRM.
REQUIRED SKILLS EXPERIENCE 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a proven track record in major gifts Ability to travel as needed Demonstrated success in securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals Experience collaborating with a team of fundraising professionals Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and storytelling skills Proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) and donor database management Commitment to the mission of the Angelicum All inquiries can be directed to Mission Advantage Recruiting c/o Tommy Lannen.
