What if you could help build Europe's first Super App from the inside? Rebell is building something Europe has never had before: a Super App. A single gateway where people can shop, pay, book, connect, and manage their daily lives across multiple countries, without switching between dozens of apps. In Asia, super apps like Alipay and WeChat have transformed the way hundreds of millions of people live and interact.

Rebell is already funded (+35M EUR) and staffed with senior leaders from Alipay, Twint, Scalapay, Qonto, and Glovo. The launch is planned for late 2026, and the project is fully financed, thus no dependency on short-term fundraising.

We are now hiring a Tech Lead to lead the definition and evolution of our merchant-side platform, dedicated to in-store and online digital payments.

This is not a coordination role. You will own technical delivery end-to-end, from specification to production, leading a distributed engineering team based in China.

The role

Rebell's merchant platform runs across two engineering hubs, one of them a 15-person team based in Chengdu.

We're hiring a Tech Lead to take full ownership of the China-based engineering team, planning, execution, release quality, and become the person who actually understands how both platforms talk to each other: payment lifecycle, merchant integration, bank gateway. You'll turn a distributed, multi-vendor setup into one that ships fast and doesn't surprise anyone.

If you like walking into a team that's technically solid but can be improved structurally, and leaving it running like clockwork, this is the job.

What you'll do

- Own end-to-end delivery of the Chengdu-based platform team: planning, execution and release quality, reporting to the IT & Integration Director.
- Be the technical bridge between the two platforms: master how both work, payment lifecycle, merchant integration, bank gateway,



and make cross-platform dependencies visible and managed, not discovered.
- Raise specification quality at the source: write PRDs, ISAs, API contracts and acceptance criteria to Rebell standards, cutting review iterations and lost-in-translation rework.
- Manage the vendor relationship day to day: own scope, estimates and acceptance from the Rebell side, rather than receiving them from the vendor.
- Grow the team's autonomy: coach engineers on Rebell's ways of working, Jira as the single delivery channel, documented decisions, testable requirements.
- Split your week across team management (daily stand ups with the China team), technical reviews, and stakeholder alignment with partners such as A+ (Alipay) and Wipro.

About you

- 5+ years of experience as a developer, front-end, back-end, or full-stack, with ownership of projects matching your scope and team size. Not a pure PM profile, and not only theoretical knowledge: you have shipped a live integration.
- 2+ years of experience as a tech team leader, with real ownership of projects and their impact.
- Comfortable discussing cloud environments (multi-zone, Fargate, DynamoDB) and able to review architecture decisions without being the architect yourself.
- Experience with payment flows (merchant integration, API, onboarding), REST APIs, webhooks and authentication; exposure to compliance or AML is a plus.
- Experience in regulated industries and in fast-growing, high-pace scale-ups.
- Fluent in Italian, English and Mandarin.
- Willing to travel to China at least twice a year.
