The Opportunity
We are looking for PLC / Automation Engineers for an industrial automation troubleshooting project in Italy .
This is a hands-on assignment focused on investigating and resolving production and automation-related issues on equipment controlled by Omron PLC systems .
The successful engineers will be responsible for troubleshooting production equipment, identifying root causes of recurring faults and downtime, and presenting clear recommendations and corrective actions to improve production reliability.
This is not primarily a PLC development role. The emphasis is on diagnostics, fault finding, root-cause analysis and problem solving within a live production environment .
The initial contract is expected to run for 3–6 months , with engineers working fully onsite as part of a rotating three-shift schedule.
The Assignment
Key responsibilities will include:
Investigating production and automation issues
Troubleshooting Omron PLC-controlled machinery and production equipment
Analysing existing PLC logic to identify software and control-related problems
Pinpointing the root causes of recurring production faults and downtime
Determining whether issues originate from PLC software, electrical systems, instrumentation, field devices, communications or machinery
Identifying bottlenecks, intermittent faults and equipment reliability issues
Using PLC diagnostics to trace faults through automated sequences
Recommending corrective actions and potential improvements
Producing clear action lists outlining identified problems, priorities and recommended solutions

Supporting implementation and testing of corrective actions where required
Working alongside maintenance, engineering and production personnel
Documenting technical findings, modifications and recommendations
The emphasis is on being able to systematically diagnose why automated equipment is not operating correctly and determine what needs to be done to resolve the problem .
Shift Pattern
The assignment will operate across a three-shift rotation :
Morning: 06:00–15:00
Afternoon: 14:00–22:00
Night: 21:00–06:00
Candidates must be comfortable working a rotating shift pattern for the duration of the assignment.
Technical Background
Direct experience with Siemens Tia Portal automation systems is strongly preferred, ideally including:
Siemens Tia Portal
Omron PLC programming and troubleshooting
Sysmac Studio and/or CX-Programmer
PLC fault finding and online diagnostics
Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text
HMI troubleshooting
Industrial networks and communications
Servo systems, drives and motion control
Sensors, actuators and field devices
Automated machinery and production lines
Electrical fault finding
Machine commissioning and start-up
Root-cause analysis of production downtime
Machine safety and safety circuits
Engineers with strong troubleshooting experience using Siemens, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff or Mitsubishi may also be considered, particularly where they have previous exposure to Omron.
Candidate Profile

We are primarily interested in mid-level / medior Automation Engineers rather than senior-level consultants.
Ideally, you will have:
2+ years of hands-on PLC/automation experience
Previous experience troubleshooting automated production equipment
Good knowledge of Omron PLC systems or similar industrial PLC platforms
Strong fault-finding and root-cause analysis capabilities
Ability to go online with a PLC and systematically diagnose equipment faults
Ability to read and understand existing PLC code
Understanding of electrical drawings and automation hardware
Experience working in live manufacturing or production environments
Ability to distinguish between software, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical-related faults
Experience working alongside maintenance and production teams
Ability to work independently and communicate technical findings clearly
A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving
Willingness to work a three-shift rotation
Availability to work fully onsite in Italy for 3–6 months
This position does not require a senior-level engineer . It would be particularly suitable for someone with a few years of solid industrial automation experience who is confident troubleshooting live production equipment.
Contract & Package
3–6 month contract
Approx. 625 SEK/hour ( €57.75)

Full-time onsite assignment in Italy
Three-shift rotation
