About Blackboard Studio

Blackboard is a portfolio of AI-native consumer apps: AI is reshaping how people use day-to-day software, and we’re participating in the revolution.

We’re growing extremely fast (0 → €1M ARR in 10 months) with a small team of 8 incredibly talented young people (median age is 24!) who love to build and ship things.

We offer you a chance to build the AI apps of tomorrow, helping us scale from 1M to 10M users in the next 12 months.

We got started by launching a leading education app in Italy: Kiwi AI. Used by 1M+ students in Italy and Spain!

We’re currently expanding across Europe and launching 2 more apps before the end of the year.

What you’ll work on

Engineering at Kiwi AI is not just about implementing tickets. You’ll have full ownership over product decisions and direct opportunities to impact the product’s vision and growth.

A few examples of your responsibilities:

- Build apps that matter. Ship your own ideas from concept to production to millions of users. Work across diverse stacks, choosing the right technologies for each challenge.
- Product ownership. Shape roadmap and product direction with the team, propose new ideas, create systems, and fix bugs as you notice them. We expect you to slowly become a mini-CEO of any project you’ll be working on.
- Amplify your impact with AI. Integrate AI tools directly into your development workflow to move faster, while maintaining high standards for quality, reliability and attention to detail.
- Be customer obsessed. Talk to users and iterate fast on feedback. Always put yourself in the customer's shoes, and act as you see fit.

Speed and reliability are not trade-offs for you: they are both the standard. We expect you to constantly grow into more mature roles with higher responsibilities.
- Taste. You value your craft and taste over everything, obsessing over every pixel. You don’t stop at asking “how do we make this work?”, you go the extra mile to make any experience feel magical to users.
- First principles thinking. You question every layer of complexity, structure your ideas sharply, resist the influence of biases, and are not shy about bringing your own opinion to the team, especially when it goes against everyone’s beliefs.
- Growth mindset. As the team grows, this role can grow into a full product-owner role. If you have ever wanted to look back and say “I built that from the ground up”, this is that moment.

Requirements

- Up to 2 years of work experience after your most recent graduation.
- You are based in or near Milan, or open to relocating.
- You have worked on mobile apps in the past (your own projects qualify).
- Looking to work with either React Native (Expo) or SwiftUI.

Some people hold back because they feel they lack experience or have an “imperfect” CV. If you like the role and believe you could excel over time, don’t self-reject.

If you pass our screening, you’ll be asked to complete one or more tests. They are challenging, may involve unfamiliar problems, and can take several hours.

The test will conclude with a technical interview with our engineers, where you’ll be asked to demonstrate your thinking process and answer any questions your evaluator might have.

Before you apply

Blackboard is a demanding environment, and we keep ourselves to a high standard. While this tends to lead to extraordinary learning, achievement and career growth, it also requires significant commitment.

For this reason, we expect you to spend most days in our Milan office, regardless of your long-term work location.
