ASTRAL aims to develop next-generation nanocatalysts based on single-atom platforms (SAPs) with asymmetric active sites, using asymmetry to enhance catalytic efficiency. Through on-surface synthesis, 1D covalent polymers with tunable active sites will be fabricated and investigated. Advanced microscopy and spectroscopy, combined with ambient-pressure catalysis experiments and computational modelling, will establish links between structure, electronic properties, and catalytic performance.
