Position Details

Overview The Secondary Teacher, History (6-8) will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective history instruction to students in grades 6-12 through our virtual learning platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of historical concepts, excellent communication and technology skills, and a passion for fostering a positive and supportive online learning environment. Responsibilities include curriculum implementation, assessment, individualized support, and collaboration to ensure student success.
Essential Duties
- Deliver engaging and interactive live virtual lessons aligned with the
- Tennessee State Standards for Social Studies (History focus) for grades 6-8.
- Utilize a variety of online teaching methodologies, resources, and technologies to cater to diverse learning styles and needs.
- Develop and deliver asynchronous learning activities, including interactive assignments, projects, research tasks, and discussions.
- Provide clear and timely feedback on student work to promote understanding and historical thinking skills.
- Facilitate small group instruction and provide individualized support to students as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
- Implement the Stellar Virtual history curriculum effectively and adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and historical understanding.
- Analyze student data to identify learning gaps and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Collaborate with curriculum specialists and other teachers to enhance the history curriculum.
- Support on-site testing events periodically throughout the year (required).
- Participate in virtual professional development and collaborate with colleagues on online teaching best practices.
- Work collaboratively with student support services (e.g., counselors, special education) to address student needs.
- Attend virtual staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of Stellar Virtual.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Minimum of two (2)
years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a secondary setting.
- Experience teaching a range of secondary history courses (e.g., World History, US History, Civics, Geography).
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing online learning platforms and educational technology tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual environment.
- Passion for working with students and fostering their understanding and appreciation of history.
- Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Workspace) in a professional setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels with high clarity and low ambiguity.
- Access to a private, reliable, and secure high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
- Residency in the state of Tennessee is required.
Education & Certification Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in History, History Education, Social Studies
- Education (with a strong history focus), or a related field.
- A valid Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in Secondary Social Studies (grades 6-8) or equivalent, with a demonstrated strength or focus in History.
