At Notre Dame, your work matters, and so do you! The Assistant Rector serves in the University of Notre Dame Rome Living Learning Community and resides alongside students at the Villa. As a member of Student Affairs and Residential Life, the Assistant Rector plays a vital role in fostering a healthy, safe, and vibrant residential community that supports students’ personal growth, well-being, and sense of belonging while studying in Rome. Reporting to the Rector, the Assistant Rector assists with the general administration of residential life, supports initiatives at Notre Dame Rome, and contributes to the holistic formation of students. While specific responsibilities may vary, the Assistant Rector is called to serve as a professional, minister, educator, and administrator. **Professional Responsibilities**
- As a representative of the University, the Assistant Rector:_
- Shares in the on-duty and in-office rotation with residential staff, including weekends, breaks, and national holidays while programs are in session, and conducts building rounds when on duty.




- Participates in daytime and nighttime on-call rotations during active program periods and communicates any planned travel outside of Rome in advance to ensure continuity of coverage.
- Responds to and manages emergencies in accordance with University policies and established protocols.
- Participates in professional development opportunities and hall staff trainings.
- Attends weekly Villa staff meetings, one-on-one supervisory meetings, and broader Notre Dame Rome staff meetings as required.
- Collaborates with the broader Notre Dame Rome community to support activities and daily operations. **Ministerial Responsibilities**
- As a visible role model and mentor, the Assistant Rector:_
- Cultivates a consistent presence in the residential community beyond scheduled duty hours to build relationships with residents and non-resident students.
- Assists in coordinating liturgies, Mass, prayer services, and programs that enrich the spiritual life of the community.
- Models an integrated spiritual and professional life consistent with the mission of the University. **Educational Responsibilities**
- Recognizing that learning extends beyond the classroom, the Assistant Rector:_
- Supports students in their integration into Italian culture and life in Rome.
- Upholds and enforces University policies, including those outlined in the student handbook (du Lac) and Residential Living Learning Community policies.




- Designs and implements community-building programs and activities in collaboration with fellow rectors and Notre Dame Rome staff, including initiatives related to culture, athletics, and spiritual life. **Administrative Responsibilities**
- In partnership with colleagues and campus partners, the Assistant Rector:_
- Assists in planning and executing new student onboarding and Welcome Week activities.
- Supports coordination and implementation of the weekly meal plan.
- Submits work orders and maintenance requests to the Rome Facilities Manager as needed.
- Documents student incidents in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with University policy.
- Assists with housing processes, including check-in, check-out, and room selection. **Benefits**

- Wi-Fi connection **Qualifications** Minimum Qualifications**: - At least 1 year of previous experience in a related field such as pastoral ministry,
- education, student personnel, or counseling
- English and Italian proficiency.
- Experience living in Rome
- Bachelor's Degree **Preferred Qualifications**
- Understanding of the structure, mission, and values of institutions of Catholic
- higher education
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in higher education with faculty, staff
- and students
- Knowledge of student life issues
- Effective interpersonal skills, including a willingness to create a welcoming
- environment for all people
- Ability to design and implement educational programming with and for students
- Capacity to manage stress and maintain perso
