Computer Vision & Deep Learning Researcher (Biomedical Imaging)
Duration: 6 Months
Location: University of Trento, Italy. Some level of remote working might be taken into consideration.
Start date: October 2026
We are looking for an ambitious researcher/engineer excited to tackle real scientific innovation in a fast-growing biomedical field over a 6-month period.
The Scientific & Technological Innovation You’ll Drive
Cutting-Edge Image Quantification: Innovate algorithms for automatic lane detection, faint protein band segmentation, and molecular weight ladder alignment.
Biomedical Vision & Signal Processing: Train and fine-tune novel deep learning models (PyTorch/TensorFlow) to decode complex gel and Western Blot image data, solving long-standing edge cases like high optical background noise, sample distortion, and signal saturation.
Benchmarked Quantification Engines:
Build densitometry routines (intensity profiling, baseline estimation) that advance automated signal analysis beyond current legacy standards like ImageJ/Fiji.
Core Competencies Needed
Computer Vision & Image Processing: Advanced OpenCV, Scikit-image, Albumentations, and 1D/2D signal processing (intensity profiling, peak detection).
Deep Learning Frameworks: PyTorch or TensorFlow focused on object detection and instance segmentation (mAP, IoU, Dice coefficient).
Tooling & Data Workflows: Python, Git, Docker, and experience with annotation tools (CVAT, Roboflow, Label Studio).
