Within the Space Division, we are looking for an Electro-Optical Sensor System Engineer (Electrical and Functional) for our office in Campi Bisenzio (FI).
Within the EO Sensor System Engineering area, the person will be responsible for defining the electrical and functional architecture of space electro-optical payloads, managing their interfaces and supporting the internal design of electronic units.
They will be responsible for defining and managing telecommands, telemetry and operational procedures for the instrument. They will supervise HW/SW integration, ensuring its validation and conducting system functional tests.
The person will be involved in the development of electro-optical instrumentation (spectrometers, radiometers, navigation cameras or attitude sensors) for remote sensing applications, both in Earth observation and scientific exploration, for the main missions developed by national and international agencies, in a commercial or dual context.
The person will specifically be responsible for:
- Defining the electrical and functional architecture of the electro-optical payload and managing interfaces between the various electronic units - Defining the methods and procedures for managing the instrument in collaboration with the satellite Prime - Analyzing and defining Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) functionalities, verifying feasibility via HW and implementing via SW (e.g., using PUS services) - Defining telecommands and telemetry to ensure observability and commandability of the instrument during tests and operational life - Defining test procedures for verifying functional aspects and supporting performance tests - Preparing specifications and procedures for functional tests,
executing tests and preparing test reports - Preparing and maintaining the Flight Operation Manual, including the definition of flight operation procedures - Supporting HW and SW integration - Contributing to the updating of technical budget reports and documentation of internal data interfaces (ICD and IRD) - Supporting the definition of EGSE and final acceptance - Participating in technical reviews and teleconferences with clients and subcontractors (English language) Education:
- Master's Degree in STEM disciplines (Electronics, Telecommunications, Aerospace, Computer Science) Required experience level:
- Expert: at least 3 years of experience in the role Technical skills and knowledge:
- Experience in systems engineering, possibly in the aerospace field or electro-optical instrumentation - Ability to analyze and manage requirements, drafting technical specifications - Documentation preparation: test and validation reports, specifications, test plans and procedures - Familiarity with buses and communication protocols typical of the space sector (e.g., SpaceWire, CAN, UART, MIL-STD-1553) - Experience in HW/SW integration and testing activities - Knowledge of space development processes and standards (ECSS) is a plus Behavioral skills:
