About Ephos
Ephos is building vertically integrated, advanced packaging solutions on glass panels. We transform raw glass into electronic and optically active substrates for die-to-die connectivity, manufactured entirely within our own facilities. Our systems are built for companies developing AI accelerators, including hyperscalers and top-tier chip designers.
We have already delivered products to leading global firms, and we are currently building a new fabrication facility to scale production by 100x. This expansion is backed by a $50M EU CHIPS Act grant—the first ever awarded to a startup.
The role
We're scaling from an R&D; cleanroom to a full production fab for photonic integrated circuits, and we need someone to design and build the network and OT infrastructure from the ground up.
You'll be one of the first hires on a new team, the group that owns the software, the data, and the infrastructure behind everything we manufacture. Much of what you build will be specified before the building is even finished. That's the nature of the role: you'll define how our fab network, line-control systems, and IT/OT boundary work, with the freedom to choose the right tools and vendors rather than inherit someone else's stack.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. If you care about engineering velocity, rock-solid networking, best-in-class security, and building something that has to run reliably from day one of production, there's a lot here to dig into.
Responsibilities
- Design the new production Fab network from scratch: architect a segmented network following OT security best practices (e.g. NIST 800-82), dimension and select the switches, access points, and firewalls the new facility needs,
and evaluate vendors beyond what we use today.
- Set-up an SD-WAN with multiple ISPs, connect our two locations into a single reliable network, and ensure the whole stack survives failures of single elements (switches, firewalls, or ISP).
- Build and run the infrastructure the rest of the team ships on: servers, containers, databases, and CI/CD. Take our internal applications from an R&D; setup to something that runs unattended in production.
- Manage the PCs and endpoints that run our fabrication lines.
- Decide and implement how corporate systems (Google Workspace, SSO) interact with fab-floor systems, and where the two must stay strictly separate.
- Build monitoring and alerting across the network and fab line parameters.
- Maintain and improve the monitoring systems we already deployed in our R&D; cleanroom.
- Manage vendor relationships for outsourced functions, owning the architecture and staying the technical point of contact.
Skills & experience
- Bachelor's degree (or further) in computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering or infrastructure/systems administration.
- Strong networking fundamentals: segmentation, firewalls, VPNs,
WAN design; comfortable evaluating and selecting hardware to be deployed in the new facility.
- Scripting & version control experience (Bash, Python, Git, …).
- Experience taking applications from an R&D; stage to production: containers, CI/CD, and self-hosted or cloud services.
- Experience operating in bare-metal environments.
- Strong grasp of infrastructure security: IAM, secrets management, network security, and hardening across cloud and self-hosted systems.
- Exposure to OT/industrial environments is a strong plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex, cross-layer issues in a fast-moving environment.
- Collaborative communicator who can work with hardware, process, and software engineers and explain infrastructure trade-offs clearly.
- Can commit to tempo pieno office presence; due to the nature of the role we will not consider remote applicants.
Ephos is a demanding environment. We operate with exceptional ambition and move fast, because the market gives us no other option. We expect excellence from you, as we do from one another. This environment offers unmatched opportunities to learn, build, and grow, but it also requires significant commitment.
What we offer
- Salary range from €40,000 to €65,000, depending on experience.
- Stock options; granted at this stage, they can become extremely valuable.
- An exceptional opportunity for growth.
