XML International is seeking an experienced GIS & Cartographic Production Specialist for a 6–12-month, 100% on-site assignment in Brindisi, Italy .

The core of this role is hands-on cartographic production , not solely GIS analysis, remote sensing or data science. We are particularly interested in professionals who have personally produced standardized, multi-sheet topographic and image-based map series.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce operational maps, briefing maps and recurring standardized map series.
- Develop and maintain Topographic Maps, Image Maps and Topographic Line Maps at multiple scales.
- Create and manage map-index grids, sheet layouts, naming conventions, templates and edition-control processes.
- Apply cartographic generalization, symbology, labelling, reference grids and marginal information.
- Prepare publication-quality products for print and digital distribution, including map books and atlas-style outputs.
- Process and validate vector, raster, satellite imagery and elevation data.
- Maintain production-ready geospatial datasets, metadata, topology, attribution and versioning.
- Perform spatial analysis, geoprocessing, feature extraction and data validation.
- Support 2D and 3D geospatial visualizations.
- Automate repeatable GIS and cartographic workflows.
- Apply structured QC/QA procedures to data and final products.

Essential Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Geomatics, Surveying, Geoinformatics, Computer Science or a related field.
- At least three years of professional GIS or cartographic-production experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience producing or reviewing:

-Topographic Maps -Image Maps

-Topographic Line Maps

-Standardized multi-sheet map series





- Strong knowledge of cartographic design, generalization, symbology, labelling, grids, marginal information and publication-quality finishing.
- Experience using ESRI technologies and open-source GIS software.
- Knowledge of coordinate reference systems, projections, grids and datum transformations.
- Experience processing satellite imagery, aerial imagery, raster and elevation data.
- Understanding of geospatial metadata, topology, versioning and QA/QC.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Availability to work full-time and 100% on-site in Brindisi.
- Current legal authorization to work in Italy and ability to operate under an independent-contractor arrangement.

Highly Desirable

- Python, ArcPy, PyQGIS, FME, ModelBuilder, Java or JavaScript.
- GeoPDF, tile packages, mobile map packages or offline mapping products.
- Map books, atlases and print/prepress production.
- GNSS/GPS receivers, total stations, laser rangefinders or comparable survey equipment.
- OpenStreetMap, JOSM or iD Editor.
- GeoAI, computer vision or automated imagery analysis.
