ALTEC are looking for an Computer engineer (or equivalent) to be inserted in the Product Assurance, Safety and Configuration Management department to support the team for all the aspect related to SW quality assurance and Configuration Management in the frame of space projects.
Duties
The most important activities that characterize the position are the following:
SW Product Assurance
- Write the quality rules: define a document (Software Product Assurance Plan) that establishes how quality will be guaranteed in a given project.
- Manage problems: when a defect or anomaly is found in the software, follow it from the initial report through to the final solution.
- Support the whole software lifecycle: from defining requirements, through design, coding, testing, and final delivery — checking quality at every stage.
- Measure and analyze data: collect statistics on the development process and product quality (e.g. how many errors, how long to fix them) and produce reports.
- Check the code: verify that developers follow the required coding rules (“coding standards”) and the guidelines of the European space sector (ECSS).
- Take part in technical reviews: at key project milestones (e.g. Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review), independently assess whether the software is mature and compliant enough.
- Review testing: check that test plans, procedures, and results are adequate.
- Lead decision-making meetings: chair working groups that decide how to handle anomalies or issues found during testing.
- Analyze reliability: assess how reliable, available, and maintainable the software is (using techniques like FMEA, a method for identifying in advance the different ways something could fail).
- Contribute to risk management for the project.
- Report to the Customer on the quality assurance activities carried out.
Configuration management
- Write the rules:
define a document (Configuration Management Plan) explaining how versions of products and documents will be tracked, following the standards required by the customer (in this case, the European Space Agency).
- Define what’s part of the product: precisely establish which hardware and software components belong to a given project.
- Keep the “official version” up to date: make sure the approved reference version (the “baseline”) is always clear and current.
- Manage project documentation: organize and archive all project documents.
- Act as a point of contact: be the main contact for the Customer and suppliers for official deliveries of documents and products.
- Lead the change approval board (CCB): when someone proposes a change to the official version of the product (whether from customer requests or changes to communicate to suppliers), this person chairs the meeting where the change is evaluated and either accepted or rejected.

- Master Degree in Computer Engineering or similar (also Aerospace, Mechanical, Electronic Engineering degrees with familiarity in SW development/quality)
- Good English (spoken/written)
